Tire noise
I have a 2007 350Z. I seem to get a lot of tire noise when I brake and come to a stop. I have heard that people are having a problems with the feathering of tires. I also heard that nissan will exchange the tires for free. Can you solve the problem by rotating the tires?
the tire feathering only applies to 03 and 04 350 as far as the exchange is concerned. You could only rotate the tires on the rim not front to back 2 different sizes.
Considering the 03 has the same suspension as the 07 and feathering was an alignment problem, i would first have the alignment checked. It could also just be your roads. How long has this been happining , just started , as long as you've owned the car ??
Just found out from dealer that the only way to stop the noise is to replace the tires. they are doing an wheel alignment but he stated that the only sure way of get rid of the noise is tire replacement.

Yes, please describe noise. I'm bout to take delivery of an 2007. I'm having the same problem. Between 35 and 20mph as I'm braking the noise begins. A low very bassy rumble. But it doesn't sound like the tires just sounds like the whole car is pissed that it's not accelerating. My 2006 did the same thing.
That tire roar is pretty common on the Z and even more common on the GTR.
From what I have understood it really has more to do with the high-performance tires that are on our cars, than it does with
any serious defect with all factors being equal.
I would check the following:
Tire wear
Tire brand, (my Kumho's are much louder than my BFG's)
Alightment
Tire Pressuer (when I switched to Nitrogen filled tires it helped out as well)
Other than that, there really is nothing you can do but turn up the stereo..

but it wouldn't depend on brakes/no brakes, accel/decel...its speed dependant. faster=louder
If you can HEAR an alignmnet issue, than its so far out of whack you will have MAJOR tire wear issues...(like within weeks).

Hello guys, this is a common matter in directional tires. First tire thread that touch the road when running the car, tend to lift and cause this noise. A simple replace for non-directional tires will cancel the noise.

^^ Good point...
Your statement defines the original-problem accurately. I would only add that the dealers had problems setting the alignment because some had equipment that was not calibrated properly, and that extended the “tire-feathering problem.”

lightly on brakes? if so don't do that! just wearing out brakes faster. sometimes you can get some strange sounds out of brakes my barely touching them, makes me wonder if this is what your doing?

I had some severe road noise when applying breaks with the stock re040s. Turns out one of the fronts had a slip/separation in the sidewall as well as feathering. Replaced both fronts (Falken fk452) and the noise was reduced drastically. I'm sure part of the fix might have been a quieter tire... The Falken FK452s seem to be fairly quiet IMO.

I do like post 10 where he says nitrogen helped the noise issue, i would bet it was just proper inflation that actually helped.
