Bought cheaper tires this time General Exclaim UHP very impressed
My Z is a 2003 with 95 K on it. I've had the Potenzas, Pilot Sports and the Goodyear F1 Gs D3s. I decided to go with a cheaper tire this time . I found that the General Exclaim UHPs got a very good rating on tirerack so I bought a set from NTB for $ 550.00 mounted and balanced. Got 225-17-50 for the front and 245-17-45 for the rear. They are really nice meaty looking tires with a wide footprint. I am very impressed with the handling , smoothness, and quiet ride. I was getting some major tire roar after the Goodyears wore down and alot of rattles from the interior. No more rattles now and they are quieter than any of the other tires I've had. I am especially impressed because I live in the Northeast and its been pretty damn cold here lately and these tires still perform well. Can't wait to really test them out in the Spring.

I have Falken ZE512 which are pretty good in dry grip (7.5-8/10) and good in wet grip (6/10) with pretty good wear ratings (30k miles) and a fair amount of road noise. I'm happy with the falkens but they are pretty greasy once they break loose and I wouldn't mind less noise.
I've never had anything but truck tires and would like your impression of how much I have to gain by dropping serious cash on a namebrand tire like a pilot sport vs a cheaper tire like the Falkens or Generals.
Thanks for the write up.

I think everything gets louder once they wear down. The tread life on those generals are suppose to be pretty dang good. They have like a 380 tread life. I heard good things about them also, other then them having softer sidewalls so I went with the cheap competitor Kumho SPT's.

I am running them also - about 1500 miles to date. They have been a good value so far. They do not have super stiff sidewalls, but they ride better and are very quiet. We'll see what happens as they wear.

I've had the displeasure of running on a couple sets of General tires before, not by choice. The suck. Mediocre grip and extremely loud. Even louder than KDW2's, which at least offer terrific dry performance.
