Toyo T1R vs Nitto 555 xtreme:
Need to buy tires soon. Toyo T1R vs Nitto 555 xtreme, can someone out there, that has used these give me some pros & cons of both. My Z is my DD, my driving is pretty conservative. I have the new Goodyear GT Eagles now, but I'm going to a 19" and would like a good mileage tire with minimal noise, LOL, if thats possible? Guys any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

On my second set of T1Rs. Quiet, good wet/dry grip, 25,000 per set, decent price. Only minus I've seen on here is sidewalls are weak in hard cornering. I don't get to the limit on cornering so not a problem for me.
Check edgeRacing for prices.

YESSS they do!!! I've never hydroplaned myself, but I'll tell you that the traction in the rain is HORRIBLE. Once they wear down a little bit, your back end will be all over the place in the rain. I was scared to drive over 40mph in the rain with them when I had the 555's
they're not too bad for dry performance, but definitely suck wet. I would never get those tires again

I have used both on my Z. The T1R seems to be a better tire for wet traction and there are a ton of stories of hydroplaning with the Nitto 555's, but that could be coincidence. Also, I have a set of used 555's with about 40% tread if you want them? What sizes are you running?

My Toyo T1R have lasted 3 years. This was that last year for them and my car is a daily driver. Thats 65 miles per day 5 days a week. The Toyo T1R were great in wet weather and even some light dusting of snow when they were new. Once the tires start getting low on tread things get interesting though.
I do like them because they lasted this long but I think I'm going to go with a different brand this year. Definitely not Nitto.

Besides... 65 miles 5 day a week for 3 years is only 50,700 miles. How you got 84,500 is beyond me.

I have nitto 555r, put about 10k on them, ran through heavy rain commuting 100 miles back and forth. I don't know what people mean about hydroplaning easily.. not like I drive slow as hell either. Granted, there are many better choices out there, but this forum really bashes the nitto like they are some POS tires while many run kumhos / falkens.. I've had my share of tires with T1-Rs, Michelin Pilot Sports (older version), Toyo T1-S, Bridgestone RE050As, Kumho Ecstas, etc... NT555s aren't that bad, they are just the average.
I'd go with T1-R's though, or whichever is cheaper. Make sure to keep the tire pressure inflated at 35psi for the T1-Rs at all times. My pressure dropped and I didn't check it and it excessively wore out my inner parts of my T1-Rs.

Nitto555's are fantastic in DRY weather. Add a little water into the situation and you are gonna kill yourself. I had 555's before and they're terrible, HORRIBLE in the rain. Dangerous, I wouldn't recommend them at all. Go for the T1R's, they're an overall good tire. I have T1R's now and have had no problems.

Well Im glad to hear the horror stories about the nittos are from wet weather driving which I never do. I have been caught in a sprinkle twice and I agree about them veing slick as hell especially behind 530hp.
But they are AWESOME on dry roads and I have raced them in the BBORR @ 125 mph and they did great in the curves..I'm going for the GT3 class this April with a top speed of 140mph. My fronts still look new but am going to put on two new tires in the back because of the camber wear...again great traction on dry roads..
I too am running the exact same size as the OP and am wondering if I can go with a 295 instead of a 275 in the rear..Had to use a 15MM spacer in the rear to clear the BBK, and had to roll the fenders right afterward...
Obviously these pics are the day before the fenders were rolled...will 295"s fit???

Never had T1R's, but I had a bad experience with toyo proxes - hydroplaned right into someone in my last car. I have NT555 right now and I love them in the Dry... I dont see a lot of rain, but I have slid around a couple times in these... mine have lasted a LONG time though... going on 40K+ on the fronts with camber wear and all (had em rotated last year)... Although I have been happy with the Nitto's, Im going to try out some falken's next time around.
