First time buying performance tires
Hi all,
I am going to be buying my first set of tires for my Z soon. I used to have a truck, and so I know a lot about off-road and all terrain tires, but performance tires are not my forte.
What brand of tires would you recommend? I've gotten all kinds of quotes, and am leaning toward toyo?
I had somebody recommend Nexen N5000's the other day? Any opinions on those? I fear those might be the Wal-Mart of performance tires...
Thanks in advance for the help

I am on my second set of Toyo T1-R and they treat me well. Treadwear is decent if your alignment is good. It is the highest performing tire I have owned to this point, but that's just because I haven't wanted to spend more money on anything better. I do not track or auto-x the Z so I can't vouch for their performance in those applications. I feel that they are decently grippy and responsive for daily driving in 50+ degree temperatures. I have had good experience with them in the rain also (i.e. leaps and bounds better than the Bridgestone Potenza RE040's that came with the car).
My opinion is that they are a good value, as much as I don't want to use the word value, but that's what I think they are. You probably get what you pay for.

The Toyo’s are a good choice since the tire is a nice balance of handling, co$t, and comfort (they ride softly and are quiet). They have a softer sidewall (so that might be a consideration if you prefer stiffness in corners).
I have also run the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, and that is comparable to the Toyo (the big difference is they run even more quietly), but cost a little more $$.
I like the Michelin PS2 best since it has a stiffer sidewall (better feel while cornering), but this tire is just as quiet and comfortable as the Toyo or Goodyear. Its only disadvantage is cost (expensive).
Notice that my choices are tires that are quiet and comfortable. The Z has little sound-deadening and a harsh suspension. However, if you like stiffness in the corners, you may prefer something else (although the Michelin won’t disappoint you at all, no matter what handling you prefer).
Another point: All the tires I mention have great grip on wet roadways… something that is important for me since I live in a climate that is often wet.
