Default 275/35 275/40 tire setup

I just ordered some 18x9.5 all around Yamaha Black Rota Grids and can't wait until they come in! Until they do, I have to decide on what tires to get. I have been combing through hundreds of threads trying to decide on which size tires to go with. I see most people opt for 245/275 setup, but from what I've seen, 245's look stretched on a 9.5 rim, which I don't like. I like the beefy rear tire look, which is why I chose a 275/40 rear. The problem is the front. I don't want the beefy front tire look. Originally I was going to go with 255/40's but can't seem to find that combo in a tire I like. You guys think a 275/35 front and 275/40 rear would solve my many issues or give me any problems? Any comments, suggestions, pics or other would be great appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Diameter in the front would be off a bit, but I think it would work. Less sidewall is usually better isn't it? Why not just do 275/40/18 all around though? Depending on your offset and camber, it should fit fine. Then you can rotate your tires too!

If the tire calculator i used was right, the stock tire diameter of 225/50/17 in front and 235/50/17 in the rear are 25.858 and 26.252 respectively. The 275/35/18 and 275/40/18's diameters are 25.579 and 26.661 respectively. I don't think the difference of 1.082" would throw off the VDC. I think the ECU allows 6% difference if I'm not mistaken. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

A 6% difference in overall diameter would be way off and would not work at all, but your tires sizes are within specification (right on for the rear and just a little over 1% on the front, so no worry).

rotating is overrated, I think that is a great setup if you are trying to go nonstaggered

I should have clarified. The 6% difference I'm referring to is the size difference between the front and rear tires so the VDC doesn't go off for no reason. Maybe I have my facts mixed up, wouldn't be the first time I've done that, haha.

Ask the user "terrasmak". He seems to be a wheel/tire guru (from what I've read) and he's actually suggested this particular setup before.

I have a base so no VDC but I do have 275/35 275/40's. I went with that because that was the closest to stock height I could get without a staggered setup.

A 275/40 up front will be huge. I would put that tire in the rear, but not the front.

Yeah, i think a 275/35 would be ok though...I would also like the 255/40 fronts to, but getting a 255/40 and 275/40 package didn't have the tires I'm looking for - Falken FK452

I have 245/35/19 275/35/19 staggered setup. I plan on going 275/35/19 295or305/35/19 sooner or later. Steering will be really heavy with such big tires up front, but it should grip like a beast through turns.

There might be some mods necessary to accomodate the larger tires up front as far as power steering is concerned from what I've been told... anyone else heard about such mods?

A 275/35/18 front and 275/40/18 rear setup does work well on non staggered wheels. The front tire size is a bit wide however you shouldn't have any fitment issues unless the car is very low.

I do not recommend 275/40/18 tires for the front as this setup is very tall. At stock ride height it "may" work however you will most likely have rubbing issues with your fender liner due to the tall tire height. The tallest tire I recommend for the front wheel is a 255/40/18, if you go wider it is always best to drop down to a 35 series profile.

CircleHeartX - That car has 245/40/18 tires all around. This setup is very conservative and not what I would typically recommend for tires on these wheels (18x9.5 +20 fitment).

I ran 275/35 275/40 on 9.5 and I liked it a lot. I'll try to find some pics

haha- my tire sizes were based on my own research and terrasmak

I agree with you, anything less than a 255 will look stretched on a 9.5" wheel. Knowing the wheel offset would be helpful. . .

Falken Azenis RT615 tires, 265/35/18 front and 275/35/18 rear. Cheap, sticky, with mediocre longevity if driven hard.
