Unhappy Tires Ripped Open on the Freeway!!! See Pix

I just got the Falken 451's from Zack and Todd from Discount Tires(my350z.com sponsor) on Tuesday(9/30), and look what happen! I've only driven the car twice, less than 20 miles and BAM totally ripped at the seams! My poor rims. These are the rears which were recommended by them. I took it to the place I had them installed and they said it was definitely this specific tire. I've left them a message so hopefully they can give exchange them for me. I'll keep you all posted.....

OMG! Be thankful you are still here. Yikes! That's dangerous. And those wheels, man... that's just wrong.

wow, first make sure someone's getting you brand new tires for "absolutely nothing" and if theres any damage to your insane wheels make them pay for it! You just installed the wheels and tires and that is ridiculous

Good luck

are two tires blown or just one? Looks to me as if you got a flat tire, and didnt notice right away, or had a blow out and drove on it. It would take less than a 1/4 mile for a tire with no air to eat through the rubber all the way around like you see here. Check the actual tread area for a hole. Were the tires rubbing anywhere?

if you miss me....

Todd-I just left you a message on your phone. I don't see any holes anywhere. The tire shows no rubbing. I pulled over as soon as the tire popped.

Wow ... that's horrible. I'm really glad you weren't hurt.

I had something similar happen a few years back with a brand new set of tires. The tire that did it to me via blow out looked just exactly like your's does. Only difference being a piece of the tread split off but stayed attached and banged up the rear quarter panel to the tune of $3,500.

It was discovered by the dealer that sold me the tire that it was a retread and should have never been sold as new. Needless to say, they took care of the damage to the car and replaced all the tires even though only one was suspect.

I'm sure it'll be made right - just sorry you had to go through so much to get it there.

before this blows up in to a tire horror story, tires dont blow up like that. A tire that looks like that is a tire that was driven on for a short amount of time after it lost its air. The rim lip area is trying to touch the ground and its eating through the sidewall. In all likelyhood there was a puncture in the tire from a road hazard, or a valve stem failure and the air was let out very rapidly. Ive seen tread failures, and separation...thats not the issue here, but it looks ugly seeing a tire like that. This is what you can expect your tire to look like if you get a flat on such a low profile tire.

I passed your voice mail on to my customer care department that is equipped to help you out. If you havent already recieved the callback, you will in the next couple hours

yeah on such a low profile tire.. with all the air let out it will look almost like all the air is in there... the place that put the tires on could be at fault some how...

good luck...

Im a tire guy, and on my 285-30-20 I didnt even notice I had a flat for about a mile! I ran over a piece of rebar which I DEFINITLY noticed...thought my car got shot. It actually went through my tire, through my wheel, bounced off the brake and went flying. However I didnt notice a change in driving so I thought I just threw it around. But a mile later when I went to change lanes thats when I realized my tire was wasted. It almost looked as bad as yours when I got out. Anyway, I hope my CC team takes care of you

My wife once ruined a tire on a bmw the same way, although it didn't eat all the way through. Couldn't feel a flat on the 18s, and when they took it off the rim to repair, the inside was all chewed up. A couple more miles probably would have met the same fate as yours, sorry.

Guess it pays to keep the psi sensors in the aftermarket wheels if possible.

If you were riding on those for awhile, you would actually see black markings on your rim lip. Thats happen to me awhile back with another car running 40 series tires. I didn't notice for a few miles, then I turned. holy moly. Thats when I new my rear tire was flat.

cool that your otay and your rim gets to roll another day!

hope all gets well!

I don't think this is the case here. I didn't run anything over, I had low profile tires before and I know the feeling when their is a blowout. I await Customer Care's call.
