Hope this is not a repost

Tirerack is having a special going on these 245/45ZR18 18inch tires @$103 per tire + S/H extra. Normally, these tires used to sell >$200 per tire. Furthermore, There is a $50 rebate going on for goodyear tires good upto 11/28. Here's the link:

They're probably closeouts - i.e. won't be made anymore.

For me, there isn't a price at which I would buy Goodyears ever again.

Not familiar with the tire; however, do not confuse with the Eagle F1 GS-D3.

Any particular reason you say this.

I’m asking because I’m running Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. I really liked this tire when I first installed them, but now with 50% wear (which seemed to happen quickly) they are so noisy I’m considering replacement. Also, the grip is nowhere near at 50% wear that it was when new.

I’m going to replace these with Michelins (which seem to wear with no adverse effects: grip, comfort, and road noise remain constant with the Michelins I’ve owned in the past).

After years and years of buying Goodyears almost exclusively, I bought a set of Aquatreads back around 2000. We immediately noticed the car pulling to the left. They decided it was "radial pull" and swapped one tire out. Six months later, it came time for the 1st rotation and we discovered the front tires were worn bad. I had to buy two new tires and they re-aligned the car and everything was fine for 6 more months then the next rotation. The car pulled to the right so it had to be realigned again. Another 6 months, same pulling issues, replaced a tire under warranty, realigned (I paid). The same or similar scenerios occured over four years. I forgot how many tires I bought, the dealer bought, Goodyear replaced and I know I paid for re-alignments almost ever time.

I finally got fed up with Goodyear and the dealer and got some Bridgestones and swore I would never own another Goodyear tire.

I have friends with Vettes that came with Goodyear runflats and they curse them regularly until they replace them with something else.

^^ Wow! 1990 you say. Well… that’s almost 20 years ago! Knowing now that you can hold a grudge that long, I hope I never offend you.

Just kidding of course, but I am surprised that you consider such old experience when evaluating a tire brand. But, I’ve ended my love affair with Goodyear (that happened in the last 2 or 3 years… nowhere near 20 years).

My current love is Michelin, and I’ve been in love with this gal for about 40 years now.

BTW: I’ve never heard anyone say much favorably about run-flats. Just about everyone dislikes the harsh ride and poor handling characteristics of this tire-type.

I'm in the market for new tires, and I was told by the Goodyear people this tire is being discontinue and replaced by the F1 All Season. Only they know if it's true or not, but then again this cat just wanted to sale me any tire.

Im getting closer and closer in getting me a set of continental DWS.

Oops, I had to correct the date. It was 2000 not 1990, the car was 1997 model. I have to agree with you about Michelins. When I was younger, I couldn't afford them so I bought the cheap junk like those Goodyears, Uniroyal (remember those?).

^^ 2000 makes more sense. I do remember Uniroyal. It was popular on the muscle cars in the 1960’s (donuts on 14” and 15” wheels ).

Michelin always seems to be the gold-standard that reviews use to compare other tires. The reason I don’t like reviews like the recent one in Road & Track magazine (comparing summer performance tires to PS2’s) is the test compares new tires. That’s only half the story.

An important factor when comparing tires is the handling, comfort, and road noise when the tread is worn 50%. It’s there that Michelin really shines.
