Default Rear tire size?

I am sure that there have been numerous threads about this stuff.
But here goes! I have 235/35/19 on the front and 275/30/19 on the rear.

Using a tire calulator, this setup is perfectly balanced in terms of height, and will not cause problems with the VDC.

My dilemma: Upgrading in width to increase rim protection will result is slightly taller sidewall even if it is still a 30 series.

My question: Can I upgrade??
- Will something like 0.13" (285/30/19) or 0.24" (295/30/19) taller sidewall set off the VDC light?

Thanks in advance.

the tire calculator should tell you percentage increases/decreases vs stock for all parameters. if it is a low percentage increase it won't hurt. having said that, 1/4" won't set off the light.

That's an odd combination. The normal sizes are 245/35 and 275/35. I'd suggest 255/35 and 285/35 if you want something a little wider on the wheels.

235/35/19 on the front and 275/30/19 on the rear.

Surprised you are running this size. Overall Tire height is identical:

Overall Diameter: 25.47 in 646.93 mm
Overall Diameter: 25.49 in 647.44 mm

I am replacing the rear tires only, due to wear. so i will be getting the same 275/30/19 as a replacement...next time, I will upgrade all four once they all wear down.

and yes, I am aware that this setup is a little odd that what is normally installed on this car.

i believe the wheels are 9.5" and 10.5". They are MSR wheels. Not sure of offsets, but spacers are plausible. Will get the wheel dimensions in couple of hours....

whats wrong with buying the proper size tires? 245 or 255/35 fronts and 275/35 rear. The 275/35 will work fine till your 235/35 fronts wear out.

^^ Looking at your pictures, I would suggest that you have too much fender gap on your rear using 30 series tires. You would have to do a big drop to get it looking right.

When replacing your tires, go with a 35 series on the rear.

keep in mind, front tires are brand new and the rear tires are almosr bald. so the gaps will differ do to that alone

Regular people have a garage filled with stuff. But yours is empty. Doesn't look right.

Well they're different now, the rear has a lot more gap with that front tire mounted back there. Your front tire is actually just shy of being the proper height, while the rear is an inch short.

Tire wear won’t account for missing by an inch. Your rear 30 series tires have too little overall diameter. That is why you have the big gap on your rear tires (and no, tire wear never approaches what we are seeing here). The fix is going to a 35 series on your rear tires.

Your front tires look fine. It’s the rears that look peculiar. I think a drop would help, but it won’t cure the big fender gap with your 30 series rear tires. Get a 35 series and your car will look much better, especially if you drop it about ½ inch.

BTW: Nice wheels! Looking good! Now, get the correct tire size that will make your wheels look even better.

WT_?

The Next steP posts a legitimate thread asking about tire sizing for his setup and takes the time to post good pictures, and you “junk-up” his thread with a foolish and worthless comment.

Well crap. What’s your point?

already ordered the 275/30/19 yesterday, next set of tires will be the upgrade. those tires are far from good quality, but no use throwing out the basicly brand new front tires to get four new ones.

it does need a drop though, leaning towards the tanabe Gf210. any thoughts?

thanks for the help Spike.

to the comment on the garage, its not a garage, it is in fact an airport hanger. so yes its empty. its for planes, not a garage full of car parts.

I had a ½” drop (that’s very minimal) on a previous Z with stock height tires. I think even that slight a drop looked better. The problem was scraping things I had not touched previous to dropping the car.
