Default OEM Tyre Size

Hi all, I know this post might have been asked before, I tried searching but couldn't come close. Well, I have OEM 06 18" rim and took it for a tyre change this afternoon. The dealer gave me 18/45/225 front and 18/40/245 rear with Bridgestone RE001 as he doesnt have 45 for the rear.

I know the original sizing is 45 for both front and rear. My question is, will the new difference cause any problems to my car? I'm worried it'll do damage to my car. Please advice.

It might cause problems for you if your Z has TCS or VDC. The front tires are now taller than the rears, on a TCS/VDC equipped Z, the rears are taller than the fronts. You may see intermittent problems with the SLIP/VDC OFF lights coming on because the computer is not seeing the proper relative rotations of the front to rear wheels.

As DavesZ#3 mentioned front tires are taller than rear. Confuses VDC all to hell.

i would not run those tire sizes..

but if you have to you could run 18/40/225 up front to balance it out with the 40 series in the rear

Those tire sizes are wrong. Your Dealer should not have mounted incorrect tire sizes.

Or maybe do this:

Move the 245/40-18" from the rear to the front, and replace the rears with 245/45-18" tires.

if he had 245/45/18 available to him then he wouldn't be having this problem

My guess is they don't make those tires in a 245. Unless he just didn't want to miss a sale so gave you what he had. From shopping around at different tire sizes and companies it seems many just don't offer the exact sizes. Though that's in regards to different 19" tire sizes since these are stock 18s I'd assume that 245's should be available & they just didn't want to miss out on a sale to an unsuspecting customer. While the 240 certainly works, while not ideal, it's not going to cause significant problems either... but I'm with most of you. I'd run 245's all around if I were looking for 18" tires. I'd take it back in and ask why he gave you the wrong tires in the back & why you weren't asked if that was ok with you before they went ahead and installed them... regardless if they should have explained everything from sizing, pricing and whether or not any issues could arise from this. Any good vendor would have disclosed this prior to sale and either asked or got the appropriate tire for you.

The dealer should be mounting the correct OEM tire size, not just throwing some random size on because he wants to make the sale.

^^

If the tire is available in 245/40-18", it very unlikely it is not availabe in 245/45-18".

His dealer should mount the correct sizes, and that might mean the dealer eats the wrong sized tires they mounted on his car.

If he's correct that they are RE-01's then he's really screwed since Bridgestone stopped making them about 2 years ago. RE-11s would be the proper replacement.

The RE-11s are and the RE-01s were available in both 40 and 45 profiles for both the 225/18 and 245/18 sizes. My guess is the dealer didn't have them in stock and didn't want to wait for an order to arrive.

Ok... latest update... the dealer was nice enough to replace my rear tires with 45's after I called... I brought it back for fittings last night and will bringing it back again this weekend for alignment... no extra costs... I'm truly glad...

I'm surprised they did that. Glad it worked out.
