Default Stud knurl question

I bought some used spacers from a member on here and he included a set of extended studs as part of the deal. Upon inspection of the studs I noticed that the knurled part seems to be stripped on each stud. The threads are in good shape.

Is it ok to reuse these studs, i.e. will the remaining knurl contour be enough to secure the studs in the hub? Just want some opinions before spending $$ on replacement studs. Thanks!

I don't like it. The studs are designed to inserted once. Not multiple times.

That's a good enough answer for me and was my first instinct. Thanks for the sanity check!

send them to me I would use them. If you have access to a welder you could install them and tack weld on the back side. A lot of the racers do it for some reason.

I would reuse them, its not really a big deal if the knurl fails.

Trying to get a lug nut off a stripped lug is no fun. Plus, how much are you really saving not buying new?

About $30 for 10 studs @ 45mm thread length, and that's for Ichiba studs (not the best, but OK for someone who rarely takes the wheels off). I went ahead and ordered a set and I'll keep these around as emergency spares in the event of damaging one of the new ones.

If the knurl fails completely, won't the stud just spin in the hub when you try to torque the lug nuts? Seems to me that the knurl is the only mechanism keeping the stud from spinning.

Actually it would happen when you remove the wheel, but that is simple to do if that were to happen. Nothing a little tension doesn't fix.

I've removed lots of studs, but I've never seen one where the knurls were stripped like that. It looks like they're made of junk steel. I'd ditch them, and get some new high-quality replacements.
