well good thing you are in luck and dont have to look dumb!

Toyo Tires recommends the following general set up guidelines for the Proxes R888:

Operating Temperature: 160°F to 220°F
Hot Inflation Pressures: 32 to 38 (psi)
Camber: -2.5° to -5.0°
Caster: As much positive as possible

i wonder if anyone will ever make a tire with a tilted tread, say 1.5 - 2 degrees, so with that camber you get full contact.

^ That's because the R888 was actually designed for road racing and autocross, and therefore not just for straight line performance.

You can try another methods to get traction. I will try the boost by speed next time.

Most of the tires listed except for the DR's are designed to hook out of the hole. Then of course as others have said, what camber setting were you running them at? An FI Z should run any more than -1.6 in the rear IMO, and less than that if you want a drag setup.

The guys that are real committed to straight-line traction would run 0 camber, even a tenth degree positive since the car cambers in when it squats. I am absolutely amazed with the RS3 tires on my track car. Mine are on-pace with my very-used Hoosiers. Fresh Hoosiers, still not talking new though, are still about 4s faster on a 2 minute track. My Hoosiers with 8 events on them, however, were only .5s faster than the RS3s. Impressive. If we could run them in Lemons, I would.

Here are some low 1:46 laps with me at Laguna on the RS3s. A 1:45 was coming if I had one more lap

I'm sitting on Yokahama S Drives right now all around, 275 rears and 245 fronts. I'm only JUST going to be enjoying the Quaife LSD with them and don't have anything to add about their performance so far because it's tough to be critical of a tire when power is all going to just one wheel. I can say that with the open dif even while NA I was having some issues- tuned to 400 for my break in I would depart almost immediately no matter what I did... was understandably hesitant! In what I've read subsequent to buying them, I'm reasonably impressed with their wet weather performance overall but I am looking for a more robust solution for the back half.

I noticed BP talking about the RE-11 and seen some pretty convincing reviews on it. Talking to someone about this before- it sounded like keeping the S-Drives on the front and going with the RE-11s on the back (285-35R19) sounded like a reasonable solution. Might be trying that out depending on if I can find some up here for a reasonable price.

You are so correct about a dif, but i would expect anyone with FI to have upgraded to a real LSD. My NA car felt slow when i installed my dif, because i could no longer spin up the tires at will. IMO, a proper dif should be a mod done before anyone even thinks about going FI.

I agree with this 100%

Even just a stock 3.3 VLSD would be a huge improvement- a 3.5 not so bad either.

It was definitely an oversight on my part and didn't actually come to light until just about the last couple weeks of the build. At that time I needed to evaluate the different options and eventually decided on the Quaife (which to my chagrin had become very tough to find at that time).

The more I'm reading about the RE-11s the more impressed I am. Wearing them all the way around looks better with every article I read.

VLSD is not a real LSD and is only usefull for getting groceries with an NA car.

LOL just keep in mind the R888 is not considered a drag tire, I would assume that guideline is configured for optimum all around performance.

With any tire in the world, common sense says it will grip best for pure straight line traction with zero camber of any sort while the car is accelerating, which can mean light positive camber base setting as mentioned by Scott

For what boosted application? Street traction? Winter? Summer? Florida? Michigan?

a properly heated r compound is going to be way superior to any "street" tire

Boost with roughly 400whp. Looking for a street tire that will provide traction. Vehicle is not driven during the colder climate in Virginia. I got a daily driver for the winter.

Any good recommendations for an r-compound tire then?

Also another good question but at what PSI do you guys run the tires at when they are cold or hot?

R888 sound like a great tire but out of my price range and I am wanting something that will last a bit longer. That is why I was leaning towards the Nitto.
