Default Who to trust?

Hey guys I was talking with a buddy of mine about fitting rims on my 350z and he said once you test fit the rim, you should lower the car, let the bare rims sit on a piece of wood, and see how it actually sits on the car as it would when your driving vs the car being raised and the measurement of the rims being off because the suspension is hanging down.

I asked my uncle who owns a bodyshop for 30+ years now and he said hes never heard anyone doing that lmao what do you think? Is my buddy a liar?

Google search: "test fitting wheels" then click on images. Report back what you see.

I saw nothing that was done professionally. Very ghetto setups by guys either outside on the pavement or in their garage. That cant be the right way to test fit them

No, your buddy is not a liar. Your uncle isn't in the modding scene.

Is it professional you ask... You could always: Get tires, put tires on the new wheels, lift up the car, take off your stock wheels, put the new wheels on the car, torque the lugs to spec, then put the car down.

Lmao well yeah but then you cant sell the rims back to the manufacturer if you put tires on. I need a way to test fit them without putting tires on, and also without simply lowering the car onto a piece of wood and hoping the wood doesnt crack in half and send my new rims into the pavement. That would SUCK

The weight of the car is held on by the jack. The suspension is being compressed as you lower the car down. Very little of the weight is on the wheel itself only the static compression of the suspension. Is there a chance the jack might fail? Yes. Is there a chance you might screw something up, damage the car, or wheels, and/or even hurt yourself? Very possible seeing you have no experience doing it. You assume all risks if you attempt it. So my suggestion to you is look at the wheel and tire subsection of this forum, find something you like and buy it. Buy same wheels that someone else already has so no need to "try and see if they fit." Those forked red looking wheels you got do not belong on a Z so might as well just send them back.

Jesus, even if you do make those ugly wheels fit with a ridiculous spacer they are still ugly. Why not just save yourself the trouble send them back or sell them and get something you KNOW will fit? That's what I would do.
