Who to trust?
Hey guys I was talking with a buddy of mine about fitting rims on my 350z and he said once you test fit the rim, you should lower the car, let the bare rims sit on a piece of wood, and see how it actually sits on the car as it would when your driving vs the car being raised and the measurement of the rims being off because the suspension is hanging down.
I asked my uncle who owns a bodyshop for 30+ years now and he said hes never heard anyone doing that lmao what do you think? Is my buddy a liar?

Is it professional you ask... You could always: Get tires, put tires on the new wheels, lift up the car, take off your stock wheels, put the new wheels on the car, torque the lugs to spec, then put the car down.

No, your buddy is not a liar. Your uncle isn't in the modding scene.

The weight of the car is held on by the jack. The suspension is being compressed as you lower the car down. Very little of the weight is on the wheel itself only the static compression of the suspension. Is there a chance the jack might fail? Yes. Is there a chance you might screw something up, damage the car, or wheels, and/or even hurt yourself? Very possible seeing you have no experience doing it. You assume all risks if you attempt it. So my suggestion to you is look at the wheel and tire subsection of this forum, find something you like and buy it. Buy same wheels that someone else already has so no need to "try and see if they fit." Those forked red looking wheels you got do not belong on a Z so might as well just send them back.
