Default Official STS Rear Mount Turbo Discussion Thread

Just wanted to start a thread for owners or prospective owners of the sts rear mount turbo kit to discuss things that worked or didn't work. I'm planning on doing a lot of things to try to increase the overall performance of this kit such as heat wrapping the exhaust, crawford headers, y pipe, test pipes and maybe even building the motor to turn up the boost. I know some of you have plans of your own so i thought we could just post in here as we add mods and let the others no how they worked out.

This is nice but not sure if it is "sticky" material. I know there are 5 of us that have this kit currently and there are at least 2 that I know that are in the process of ordering the kit. I know everyone of us are doing some little things on our own but this will be nice for future owners reference.

Edit:
Here are some of the Dyno for reference.

TegraRacer134: 10 psi with Invidia Test Pipes and Utec BCS.

Atheng: with TestPipe, stock Exhaust and Utec BCS (I have the New STS Piping).

373.4whp/392TQ (9Psi at around 3700rpm and boost dropped to 7psi at redline Need to find a way to hold that boost!!)

I had to re-trace the graph coz the shop ran out of Ink. Blue is my boost.

Goosegoose: 8psi with stock CAT, stock exhaust and Utec BCS.
Blue is the new Piping dyno and Red is the old piping dyno (New piping is much more conservative timing map)

Ahsmo: 8psi with Test Pipes, Nismo Y-Pipe and Nismo Mid pipe and Utec BCS

Boozt : 8psi built motor (low compression Piston) on Mustang Dyno.

The tip of the Exhaust is ugly so this is what me and Goosegoose got to make it look better.

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=1367

It is a Clamp-on but I cut mine and weld it.

Some STS owner has also used Test Pipes especially the Invidia (2.25 diameter) with good success.

Goosegoose also had good experience reducing the sound by replacing the midpipe resonator with this
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=845

It is also a straight-through muffler so it does not inhibit flow.

Goosegoose also got his heat wrap here:
This is a quote from him so you get an idea how much you need.

http://speedzone24-7.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=11031

3 rolls was enough, but I wrapped everything, even my Y-Pipe, and everything up to 1 inch from the turbo.

Make sure you get a lot of snap straps:

http://speedzone24-7.com/snap-strap.htm

Daniel is currently using the Apexi AVCR Boost Controller and this help him achieve full boost on 1st and 2nd gear.

I finally got a chance to see my kit. It arived in 3 boxes. Everything looked very nice and neat. Only 3 more months until I can even begin to install it.

I was interested in the STS kit till they decided to sell it for as much as a TT kit... Now I have a hard time justifying it.

They are giving it right now for $5500 for a complete kit. Not sure how long is this going to last though.... One was offered local to the STS Headquarter for $6200 out the door with install and Tune.

All I know is they're selling the side pipe design now for cheaper than what I paid for mine which was supposed to be at some great discount. I've been going back and forth with the guy from STS since yesterday about switching me over to the center pipe design. I'm gonna wait till i get a definitive answer on what they're gonna do before i totally bash them though.

Goosegoose got his new relocated piping yesterday. Not sure if he has to pay for it but the price that I mentioned ($5500) include the new relocated pipe.

I have an FX35 so I would be alright with the side piping, how do I go about finding this? Should I call STS directly for info on the older version kit w/ side intake piping?

Pretty sure it's compatible. I know the UTEC works for sure on an FX35, are the maps for the 350Z different from G35 maps? I know there's ECU differences... but as for engine management they're pretty close if not the same...

As far as I know they are the same coz the kit that was installed to me was from a 350Z but of course MRC did the final tuning. Call Vernon and he'll find aswer for you.

I would rather not sell the nismo. I am going to try to make it work. I figure the free flowing Y pipe and mid pipe wouldn't hurt.

Edit*

How long did it take you to install? I have the 8 hours everyone says it takes but I do not have the time for the little hiccups along the way like my nismo mid pipe being totally the wrong size.

Edit*

F@#k it. I have until sunday evening to get it done.

What makes this thread official?

Btw, Daniel, when I just saw Bourne Ultimatum, they mentioned his real name and I was thinkin "That's where that dude w/ the STS got his name... oh wait, DAVID Webb..."

I made it so far as the spark plug and injector install.

The rest looks pretty easy. Not bad for about 4 hours.

Who will be the first to blow up their stock motor on the STS kit?
