Default Z Gas tank mileage?

I'm wondering how many miles everyone is getting to a tank. I'm at around 280 when the light comes on and the computer says I have about 40 miles left till empty. Well after those 40 miles I fill up my tank and it only takes like 16 gallons. The tank is 20 gallons so what gives? Is everyone else's gauge that far off also?

its very conservative.

The most I ever filled in was 17 gallons and that was after driving with the light on for a bit.

lots of reserve, I estimate after light comes on 100 miles of highway range.

Fred..

I think AFTER 20 gallons its fumes.
The tank LITERALLY holds 20 gallons of actual gasoline

Thats pretty bad, your fule injector must be picking up lots of debris from the bottom of the gas tank if you drove on empty that long. Keep doing that and you're gonna need to clean out your injector here pretty soon, but I must admit, thats pretty damn crazy.

wow that's an insane reserve amount. Something like 110 miles after the light came on. And it says 40 miles!

Here's the deal. I ran out of gas, at a gas station. It took 19.8 gal of fuel. I also noticed that during alot of city driving the gas light will come on, but when I then go to the freeway were i get alot better milage the gas gauge actually goes up on the gas light goes off for a little while.

What does this mean? The MPg in computer on our dispaly is very acurate. my fuel gal=miles driven=and MPG are .01 acurate.

Because the gas tank is built arround the driveshaft. There is a big portion on the pass side of car and a small portion on the driver side. That small portion holds around 3 gal.

When I ran out of gas I actually the fuel pump(when you first turn the car to on postion before starting) sucking air. The light goes on when 17 gal of fuel has been consumed. Go by your MPG computer and miles driven since last refuel. It's very acurate.

Evertime I fill up I check the mileage against the computer and it's close like say the best it has been is off by 1 mpg but never better.
