High Intensity Discharge (HID) is a type of lighting technology that replaces the filament of the light bulb with Xenon gas. The gas is ignited to produce an arc of light, when high voltage is applied. The amount of light output is three times that of a standard halogen bulb. The lamps also glow at a higher light temperature (closer to natural sunlight) that gives it its distinct color and appearance.

HID Bulbs are filled with Xenon gas, but you can also have non HID bulbs filled with Xenon gas. I do, however, believe the S2000 has HID.

perhaps the difference is projector vs reflector style headlamps. The S2000 uses projectors and I think the 350Z uses a reflector set up?

ya HID / xennon / Bi-xenon (saab)
all same principal = no filliment to make the light.
street lights and most commercial lighting use some form of HID (sodium, mercury vapor, xenon, halogen, ect.)
I think it would be cool if they could somehow use laser light with the right reflectors the same way they are now using LEDs!!
It would be soo cool to have laser tail lights (not as bright of course)

and white laser head lights.. is there even such a thing as white laser?? hmmm.

As a former S2000 owner, I can definitly say that the S2000 lights are much better. The projector style is better. It seems like the 350Z was designed for stock halogen, and then offered with HID last minute.

I purchased the Base model and upgraded to stock HID lights using a kit from Jun.

s2000 lights are 10x better, but we have to all remember, that the s2000, bmw's, audi's, benz's and others are all full projectors.

we have somewhat of a projector but not fully, the Z is half projector half reflection.

but hey they look good and they work.

i just raised mine about a 1/4 of an inch and the world is so much brighter.

I have an 04 base model and I can not stand the headlights. My old Honda had better lamps. How much does Jun charge for the HID replacements? Also...

Sang, how did you raise your lights?

there are adjusters to raise or lower the aim on the head lights.
