Raspy sound when decelerating
I know i will have some rasp due to my high flows but lately I have been experiencing a different kind of rasp, which can be compared to a loose chain from a bike when the car is approaching decelaration. For example, if you accelerate (smoothly) to 45 miles for example and then let go off the pedal and as the car slows down I hear a weird sound from underneath like a loose chain from a bike. It is not the high flows for sure its different. What could it be? Plz let me know your opinions. Is it serious or does it sound like just something needing adjustment? Car runs fine by the way!
does it seem any louder during normal driving? There could be a leak...or worse, a hole. I'd first check all the brackets and seals around the cats, y-pipe, mid-pipe, and muffler...if it is still unresolved, take it to a good mechanic. Sorry can't be more help. Good luck bro.
The only time I hear it during regular driving, other then deceleration, is when I'am coming out the rasp coems on during the initial seconds of acceleration then it fades but it dissapears. Its only there when accelerating or decelerating. If its a hole you mean a hole on th ecats, y-pipe or exhaust or a hole on the engine? If its A then I will just replace those parts but not the motor right? Car is running fine.
How long have you had your highflow set-up? Uumm... as suggested earlier: go underneath and make sure the exhaust is not scraping, touching and/or is not loose in anyway. Drive passed a friend and have them tell you if they hear it also and where it's coming from. Maybe someone threw small rocks in your exhaust? I dunno I'm out of ideas. Keep us updated!
I have the same sound for 3 years now. If you change your headers or hi-flow cats, then you have increased the airf flow of the exhaust system. With the increase of air flow, there will be a sound resonance which produce that sound.

I dont think its necesarily the high flows though, I hear this new sound on the side of the cats.
Well, If you find out what cause it, make sure you let me know too
I always have that sound when I put my headers and hi-flow cats on. This topic had been discussed many times in the engine forum and that's what other people said
