The problem is that you are always going to find a car at the same price range or a little cheaper that does something better. The Z is not the best at any one aspect, it isn't the fastest, it isn't the best handling it isn't the cheapest, it doesn't carry the most cargo, it may not look the best, it doesn't get the gas mileage, but it does what it does well.

There is no car that fulfills all of those criteria. You have to decide which of those things are most important to you and buy the car that best fills your needs and wants.

If you have more money you have more options, but you are still not gonna be able to get a car that is the best at everything. If you could you would simply walk into one dealership and they would ask "how much do you want to spend" and then they would put you in the one model that is the best car for that price and send you on your way.

Decide what is most important for you and buy the car the come closest to that.

Has anyone mentioned that the interior of the alternatives mentioned are made of crappy material? Ford and GM interiors have never looked good. It's like the interior designer and the exterior designer don't talk to each other. This thread is dumb. Does this axxizzer person even have a Z?

PLEASE everyone. Don't buy a car because of numbers. Quarter mile this, horsepower that. Nobody gives a toss. Make sure your car matches your personality.

I have another PLEA for everyone. STOP replying to this ridiculus thread.

Some idiot starts a thread about a fast TRUCK and next thing I see is 5 pages of replies.

He obviously started this ridiculus thread comparing a truck to a sports car to see how many Lemmings would follow and we sure did.

Unfortunately, the original poster is quite serious in his stated belief.

someone said the grass is always greener...thats true

you can just mod your car, and if people say its cheaper to mod and evo or an sti oh well, the Z has more style anyways, and with enough you can still beat them and have the style the Z has. Its all personal preference

fine, looks like I'm bested. And yes, I have a Z.

In fact, I have had 2.

This thread was serious, and I have no regrets. Its just really clear that most people here are just elitest ******, and refuse to see anything in a different light. I own my Z, I love it, but I am just sad that we are being passed up by so many different things, and practically **** on by Nissan in that they will not give the Z any serious change to keep up with ever-quickening cars.

1st....Watch the name calling. You've been warned.

Now...you came on a forum of 350Z owners and complained about how some SUV was faster than the Z and that all these other cars on the market are "better". Did you honestly think you wouldn't get some aggressive resistance to that philosophy? You've been here long enough to know better. There's nothing elitist in believing you purchased the best car for the money and arguing that point when confronted by someone who is stating otherwise. That's why you posted isn't it? To get other peoples opinions?

I don't think anyone here is trying to be "elitest".

There were a lot of concessions that there are cars out there "better" than the Z. However, it does seem as if you are unhappy with your purchase and the parent company, and that you're worried about the "competition".

Perhaps reviewing the design philosophy will shed light on the Z's "weakness":

"We began by asking ourselves, do we pay homage to our past 240Z or 300ZX more literally, or do we metaphorically or philosophically represent it? We knew we must show a vision of the future...

"Not surprisingly, we agreed that the 240Z was fun to drive, light and agile, industrial chic, and high testosterone. It just had that nimble feel. We trimmed off some of the crudeness, the derivative cues from the 1970's, and the thin-walled quality. From the 300ZX we wanted the sleekness, the gait, the refinement and sophistication, but we thought it was a bit too sweet, too luxurious, and too big a scale."

--- Diane Allen, Nissan Design North America

Nissan can make a 400hp-500hp engine V8, make it FI, and drop it in the Z if they wanted to. They didn't, for very purposeful reasons (probably saving that for the GTR...).

Ultimately, elevating gas prices and limited oil supplies will crush this current horsepower war (which is already out of control). Maybe you'll feel better about your car and the "competition" then. Peace, brah .

it's a cycle! think old Datson 240Z, great value sports car competator for its time--the following models became heavier and more plush and more expensive, then the Z died. *kazam* the new 350Z shows up 3 decades after the first 240Z and the trend begins again with weight increase, more comforts, and increased prices...who knows, it just might have to die again.
