Unhappy Vandalism and the Z.

The thread below about the Z being a target of vandalism
worries me as a future Z owner. I had a 280Z many years
ago. It was Red and attracted attention. But it was never
vandalized. Now, time must have changed. My order still
stands but will be very careful. I live in a small town, where
most people are decent. I worry about going to the nearby
college, where there's more young jealous types. I'm
middle aged and the Z goes from my garage to my place
of work. I park at a designated lot(doctors only) and
chances are, no punk roams around. Maybe the presence
of Mercedes, jaguars and luxoSUVs will camouflage the Z.
I seldom go out at night and will not drive the Z to the
big cities and leave it overnight. We just have to be more
careful until this car becomes more numerous and common.

I thought about your post and it saddens me. I mean this is a $27,000 car (excluding upgrades). Man you barely get a Passat or Accord for $22,000. How sad it is that you have to think about this! This is not a freakin Ferrari that in my opinion is pure ego. This is a reasonable transportation vehicle that kicks butt and is economical. People, this is truly a sad post and reflects on our state as a country. I hate to ramble but being the day before X-mas, it saddens me. I work hard and I am sure most of you do too. Talking about the inmates running the prison! I am so f-ing sick of the sh&t. It is time the good people of America stood up and put the indigent hooligans out of business. Either perform or get out of my way. I have somewhere to be and to make a buck right after I thank God and Pledge Allegiance to the Flag!

Sorry but I am PO'd.

Sometimes people are too parnoid about their cars being stolen.

Are you also parnoid about car accidents to? Are you driving 10 mph below speed limit? Are you also parking miles away from the mall so that the car won't be dented or scratched?

Sorry, but you cannot predict whats going to happen in the future.

Cars are being stolen all the time. You can't stop it nor you can't prevent it. You can only delay the vandals with your alarm.

I don't mind people taking safety precautions like installing clubs, alarms, or parking under a light, but you gotta remember, **** happens.

This is only a 350z, its not a ferrari nor its not a honda accord (rated #1 in car thefts).

Just chill and enjoy life with your z. Don't spend to much time worrying about your car.

Buy the car, place insurance with a solid insurer, and enjoy the car.

This board has over 4000 members across the country; some vandelism is bound to pop up statistically. While unfortunate, manure does happen. Don't let the posts steal your Zzzzzzzzzzzz
joy.

I think currently there is a lot of vandalism, more so than usual, because of its newness. Its style is contraversial for some, its rare and nobody really knows the price or anything. Some hoods maybe having a bad financial day, and they see this "butt ugly" new car that costs "$60k" so they say, "man, f*** this ugly rich person car...$60k could buy me a house...etc."

Buying a Z is a pure emotional experience. It's a toy and also
brings us to point A to B. It makes it practical in a impractical
sort of way. But heck, I like the drive, and others like the ride
like the Cadillac. I've also owned much more expensive cars
than a Z. The BMW I drove years ago, cost more than
the Z , brandnew! I think vandalism for the Z happens with the
following circumstances.
1. Wrong place of parking.
2. Wrong time of the day or night
3. Bad immature idiots who happen to be there with factors 1&2.
4. Poor lighting for 1,2,3 to happen.
Other than that, there is nothing we can do.

When I leave my car in a parking lot, about half the time when I get back somebody will be peering into the window or somehow checking the car out. ANY car that draws a lot of attention, regardless of its price, is a possible if not likely target for vandals . And I agree with what was stated earlier- the car looks a lot more expensive than it is.

Im going to post on this, even though I don't own a NEW 350Z or a NEW car for that matter.

I have a 1995 Chevy Camaro..thats right. nothing special. Really.

I am one of those jerks who park a mile away from the store entrace for fear of door dings, vandalism, etc. Now being 21 and knowing tons of people in my town is a blessing sometimes. I feel safe usually. However one day my father asked me to run to Hyvee for him, and since I was only getting a 24pack of pop I parked in the FRONT ROW on a Tuesday Aprox: 11:20 am.. right around lunch time. I was inside a whole 2mins and when I came out someone had keyed my car! I was soooo pissed. I don't think any of us can escape it really, no matter what we do we are left to let some punk kid who doesn't have a job and obviously no life or future, come along and damage our most prized possesions. Really pissed me off. Sorry for the rant, but I just dont understand why someone can't be happy for someones success instead of destroying what they have to show for it.

I got a job as a Computer Tech and this car was bought when I was 19, without a CoSigner, and my mom and dad have never paid out 1 cent for anything I have on this car. This means a lot more to me than just a car, and to have this happen saddened me very much. I hope none of you have to go thru this.

The only good possible outcome of this, is I plan on getting a new hood (Cowl Induction) and repainting the car to Mystic Teal (My current color changes but not drastically)... Other wise I feel very vulnerable parking anywhere..and I don't feel I should have to.

I've been lucky to not have my Z vandalized, but it has worried me too. I used to park it at school and there was a lot of theft/vandalism going on there before I got my car so I was pretty worried. I made sure I parked with the BMW's and Lexus's and fortunately I was OK. I've been parking it either in the garage or under a motion light at home and that seems to work pretty good. I've had my other car vandalized a few times from being egged to having fireworks set off on the hood when I was in high school.. and I was driving my '72 Buick with a lousy paint job then. It sucks you have to worry about this kind of stuff going on, you'll just have to hope it doesn't happen to you.

I to am a little paranoid about where I leave my Z.

But it's not just that people a jealous of the Z. My wife had a 2000 black Toyota Solara that was keyed at a restaurant. How many people out there can be jealous of a Solara, my wife didn't even like it after she drove it for a week. I guess just the fact that it was shiney drove someone into a fit of jealous rage.

Whatcha gonna do?

How many people posting here have Zs? At least a few hundred. Only a handful have been vandalized, which is still very unfortunate and inexcusable, but I don't think it's as big as a problem as it might seem statistically.

Oh yeah, and my Dad's F-150 was keyed. There's not much rhyme or reason to vandalism.

My '96 Sentra has been keyed, kicked and had beer poured on the hood. All in fairly nice college areas here in Austin. Probably by drunken frat guys who have far more money than I do.

I've had two stereos stolen out of that car as well.

So I contend three points:

1. Doesn't matter how nice your car is.
2. Doesn't necessarily have anything to do with jealousy.
3. Some people are just jerks.

So if and when I get a Z I'll get a low comprehensive deductible and do my darndest to avoid being paralyzed by fear.

I'm pretty cautious about where I bring the Z, I always try to park somewhat far away, but the threat always exists. It's really not just with the Z, my roommate's 4Runner got keyed, my friend's 1988 Prelude (that looks like a piece of crap) got broken into and then later stolen. It kind of sucks that I have this car that I'm afraid to bring to a lot of places. For example, for New Year's Eve, myself and some friends are going to Mohegan Sun, a big Indian casino in CT, and I'd like the bring the Z, but I'm not sure I will. Do I leave it with the valet and risk some punk 18 year old pulling what happened to Ferris Bueller, or do I put it in the lot and let it face the wrath of all these people who have just lost money at the casino?

I stopped driving it to work, you would think that at a hospital, there would be plenty of other nice cars, but there are also plenty of jealous petty people.
