350Z thefts?
I just talked to my insurance guy, and he was telling me that because being an insurance agent, he knows that people like to steal cars like the Z. At the moment I thought "this idiot doesn't even know what he's talking about" (five minutes earlier we were standing in front of the car and he asked me if it was considered a roadster, and the car is a coupe). But when I was driving back to work, I started thinking, and I haven't heard from anyone getting their Z stolen.
To my understanding, the Z should be hard to steal, they have the encoded key and everything.
My question, is the Z really an often pick for car thiefs?

The engine disabling key is not very difficult for professional auto thefts to get around, but usually they don't waste time on a 30k car if they are professionals. From what I have read it takes about 20-30 seconds to "recode" the engine. Nevertheless the Z is still difficult to steal and the risk reward I just don't think is there right now. Also the Z does not share a lot of parts with other cars, so it is not a very "chopable" car.

LOL, but when they don't return it after a few months and if they do and its only your steering wheel, is that call long term borrowing?

Cars are stolen to part out and the most frequently stolen cars are the most popular cars IE Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Etc. Because there is more of a demand for parts. Once the Z is older and more popular and needs fixing more, there will be an increase in thefts.
"Popularity and longevity have a lot to do with a vehicle's popularity as a theft target, agreed Frank Scafidi, a spokesman for the NICB. Not only are there more vehicles available to steal, but as vehicles get older they require parts more frequently, creating demand for parts taken from stolen cars."
