Default low engine oil?

i have an 06 6 speed enth with 2800 miles on it. what should be the "normal" level of oil according to the oil gauge during idle? my oil gauge is a 1/4 above 0 during idle. is this a sign of low oil? i checked the dipstick too and the oil is a little bit above the L which indicates that im still good. but the rough idles... could it be from low engine oil?

you're supposed to check the oil when it's been sitting overnight or at least several hours...

once the engine starts, the dipstick is no longer accurate... I never check my oil in idle... but i may be wrong.... anything above zero means there's still enough oil so I think that should be ok...

correct me if I'm wrong.. i'm no mechanic

same goes with tire pressure, it should be cold pressure before you drive the car...

What is the oil pressure when driving? It should be about 60 PSI.

If you use synthetic, it'll be a little less too.

Damn Davidv!! How do you get 34.5mpg?? With avg speed of 58mph on top of it all??? I'm generally at 18.5 to 19.0mpg. You must have a "Turbonator" in that bad boy.

yeah i think i read a thread by you that said you lost a qt of oil. thats why i was wondering if it could be the same for me. but can low engine oil contribute to rough idling? oh and davidv, i was wondering what the gauge reads when your at IDLE not when your driving.

looks like he was doing mpg at certain constant speeds - unless nissan came out with a hybrid Z

ave the 34 mpg with 12ish each time you go 0 to 60 and it drops back down to low 20s ( high teens if you drive 0 to 90 from each stop sign)

Yeah, reset the gauge while driving a constant 60mph on the freeway and you should be in the mid-30MPG range. Try it.

imseksy - The Z has a rough idle. It's not the oil level that's doing that. Your tach needle will bounce around slightly at idle. It feels like something's wrong but bring it to a dealer and they'll tell you it's normal.

Correct. Flat and level highway. Cool weather. Low humidity. Tire pressure 35 PSI cold. Windows up. Cruise control ON. Reset MPG. Wait about 5 minutes and the MPG will stabilize.
