I thought I might bring this thread back from the dead. I just took my car to performance nissan for the rear end whine that happens at 75mph+, I took one of the tech guys for a ride, and he told me its the fuel pump and Im not sure if I beleive that. If it were the fuel pump wouldnt the noise be there if there car is on, or it shoud increase with rpm, not mph. I guess theyre going to change the fuel pump, but Ill let you guys know what happens. I think Ill end up with a new diff.

No its not normal. My car started doing it a few months ago, if it was normal it would have done it since day 1, on all Z's. If the dealer tells you its normal, its a lie. The car should be done with whatever work theyre doing on it, Ill let you guys know whats going on.
Rain: your the first person Ive heard of who has this problem with an auto. This makes me think even more that its the diff, and not the transmission.

^ I dont know if I read it right, but I think what your saying is that there is a problem with speedo. needle, and not the engine. If thats what it is, I dont think your mods would void warranty, it will void it if they can prove those mods caused the problem. Just find a good dealer in your area and take it there.

If any of you guys have intakes on your car, it could be that. The air getting sucked into the engine whistles as it goes through the crack around the throttle plate. My brothers car does this under light acceleration or at certain loads on the freeway.

I got it too. But I don't think it's a problem. I've tracked my car three times now and the suckiest thing Nissan gave us was the brakes (which I have replaced). I think that "beeeeeeep" sound is kinda cool. And so is the whining at speed. I wouldn't complain. You don't wanna get your car in an even worse condition with the dealership touching stuff. The tech guys and "service advisors" aren't always trustworthy in my experiences.

I have a pop charger on the car, but the problem started way before I had it. Its just an annoying sound to live with, especially when you have to drive about 30 mins on the freeway almost everyday, hearing that damn whine. I talked to them today and they said they dont know what it is, so I told them to check the diff. If they cant figure it out by Tuesday, Ill just get the car back and live with it I guess, maybe try changing fluids.

Just talked to the dealer, they brought in the master tech. they couldnt find anything wrong with it. The master tech said its from the diff. do he drove a brand new one offf the lot with a LSD and it had the same noise. So in other words, no solution. Its "normal".
