Default Anybody heard of this....

I'm in the middle of ordering a Z from a dealer. The dealer indicated that there would be a $500 market adjustment for advertising. The dealer indicated that every dealership is charging this amount. I tried to search the forum for any other posts in regards to this and came back empty.

Any information would be helpful..

Thanks

I believe there is some sort of advertising fee built into MSRP. there are no mandatory charges other than delivery above MSRP. market adjustment=price hike.

Its called "Dealer HOLDBACK".

Its a legitimate expense that ALL Nissan (and virtually all other manufacturers) charge. It is part of the car's MSRP (typically ~2%) and is meant to assist the dealer in paying for advertising costs.

Seldom is ever it possible to negotiate this amount out of the price of the car - i.e. you may be able to negotiate on the price of various options/accessories/ or the car itself, but Holdback typically is non-negotiable.

ALSO, please note that Holdback is already included as part of the car's MSRP - if the dealer charges an "extra" amount over MSRP for advertising, then this isn't the same thing and may be negotiable. If the dealer won't budge, then find another one who will.

No freakin' way. Tell them they can shove that 500 bucks where the sun don't shine. I hate all these stupid stunts that dealers pull, and they try to make it sould legit by saying "every dealer's doing it."

How dumb are these people who think we're not going to find out the truth from forums like these?

Dude, you're WAY off base where dealer holdback is concerned.

Dealer holdback is a bonus that the dealership receives from the manufacturer for selling the car....it has nothing to do with the consumer paying anything additional.

I thank everyone for applying. I was able to cut a deal with another dealership that didn't cahrge this bs fee. I'm going to pay $650 over invocie price (per edmunds.com) +$89.50 doc. fees and $24.50 title transfer. This seems like a pretty good deal to me! It's due in Mid to late April

Thanks,

onez (finally)

it works out better this way for me. I get a sizeable bonus from my employer in mid March. Yea, this is working out real well.

Thanks again.

Congrats and I'm glad you were able to find a dealer who isn't out to screw everyone they meet! Sounds like you got a pretty sweet deal and the Z should be rolling in at just the right time for ya!
