Default Braking Distance

Did anyone see C&D's 70-0 braking distance of just 164ft?

Do you realize what company this puts the Z in? No? Well check the list out below:

[All stats from C&D (sorted by price)]

Car===========Price=======70-0=====skidpad (g)
350Z=========$34,000=====164ft======0.88+

Audi TT Q======$42,961=====163ft======0.85
Benz C32 AMG===$52,610=====163ft======0.80

Corvette=======$54,239=====162ft======0.92
BMW M3========$56,526====162ft======0.89
Boxster S=======$58,088====165ft======0.93

911 Carrera=====$85,934=====163ft=====0.90
Benz S55 AMG===$101,903=====163ft=====0.90

911 Turbo======$118,535=====163ft=====0.93
BMW Z8=======$134,455======164ft=====0.00

Ferrari 550=====$224,714======165ft=====0.94

Now that's what I call keeping good company!

FlyingScott,

While you are looking at all those stats from C&D, can you look up the braking numbers for 2000 celica GT-S too please? I heard the brakes on it got excellent ratings but never cheked the numbers.

You forgot the most pertanant test, the G35 sedan 70-0 in 162 feet. I can't understand how the lighter Z with bigger tires, bigger brakes and lower center of gravity takes longer to stop, but it's still great.

Now come on guys. I'm over the weight thing already. I need to move on with my life. Don't you? Try to be positive. Don't make JDZ's comment any more truthful than it already is.

Yes the S2000 has a shorter stopping distance and a better g rating, but, that car was built as an engineering project to give Honda the much needed respect in the F1 arena. The trade off is that it has a 4 cylinder with no torque. The car is also twitchy and is even a bit of a handful in the wet (according to some reviewers). The S2000 has had very limited successful at racing because it is out classed by the heavier more torquey competition. Also, I tried to buy one two years ago. After dealing with the local Honda dealership I swore I would never buy a Honda. Those guys made you feel like they were doing you a favor letting you have the car for only $6,000 over sticker.

I think living with the Z will be much better than an s2000 etc.

I also almost purchased the Celica GTS, again because it was light, with great handling and braking. After just 30 minutes of test driving, I returned it and picked up the keys to my '92 NX2000. The car had some serious engine tuning issues and the handling wasn't that much better than my old beater. “Not worth the car payment.” I said.

I think Nissan wants the Z to be a good all rounder rather than exceptional in any one area, although I'd call the braking exceptional. Just because a couple of Benzs and the S2000 can do 70-0 in the 150's doesn't mean a hill of beans (you like my use of American sayings?). I still think people need to look closely at my list. The company you keep is all that matters.

My post is falling from grace. I'm just trying to prop it up.

The Z rocks, 'specially at many k less than the other cars listed. Speaking of skidpad, anybody notice car and driver only gave the 50th vette .89 in the skidpad?

not that it has anything to do with braking distance, but how come when we leave spaces in our text, they automatically colapse back on themself. I see you have to put in spacers to make the columns stay. Why is it we can put a man on the moon, but we can't keep our intended spaces??
