Starting car in reverse.
New member here btw, just bought a 2004 Performance Z about 3 weeks ago, lovin the car.
Anywhoo, this morning I was trying to paralell park on a hill...so I was trying to reverse into the spot, I am not 100% used to the clutch on this car yet so I stalled it on the hill trying to back up into the spot, anyways I started the car in reverse and I hear a BAD grinding noise comin from tranny, is it bad to start the car in reverse or something? I had the clutch completely depressed down, anyone have an idea why I heard a bad grinding noise?

Escobar is correct. It doesn't matter which gear you are in if the clutch is fully depressed when starting your car.
However, if the car is moving at all when you try to shift into reverse it will grind. This is because of the synchronizers. Next time, make sure you are completely stopped before shifting into reverse gear.
Good luck,
Joe

Are you 100% sure the engine was dead? Attempting to start a running engine will make a terrible grinding noise. It shouldnt matter which gear you were in. If you started the car in reverse with the clutch depressed, the lack of a reverse synchro is irrelevant. The transmission is already in gear and the engine is disconnected from the transmission.
Diagnosing problems just from a someones description is not always an easy/accurate thing to do, especially over the internet. If whatever the problem is persists, see a qualified nissan mechanic.

Mechanically, the car couldn't grind if you had the clutch fully depressed. The starter engages the flywheel only when you turn the key, so as long as the engine isn't already running and the clutch is fully depressed, no grinding would occur.
