I had same problem after selling my Ford Lightning. After 6 months barley driving a beater around I bought my 350Z. Next time I decide to make a change its going to be a Vette but I have a couple more years driving the Z. Anyways as soon as you start driving regulary again you'll be at a dealership buying the next in thing. Stay away from the bike. Driving the beater will give you a good opportunity to relax and step back and really decide your next move and a great trade in. I drove a GSXR1000 for 2 years and have nothing personal against bikes. But I live in South Florida and people just cant drive here. After 2 almost near death experiences I sold it. My advice is if you want to live a long life leave the bike alone if you are going to ride it in a big city. But I am 32 now so how I think now is alot different then 10 years ago. Not sure what age you are but maybe you'll have to experience almost death before realizing bikes are not worth the risk in big cities. And I was very stubborn about it cause my brother is a ER doctor and has given me every missing leg, head cut off, missing arm stories you can think of and I still bought the bike. And people who ride bikes will always tell you dont listen its safe blah blah. cause it justifies what they are doing. Whatever you decide enjoy it man. Have fun.

And you know what ? I feel like ****. I went through so much with this car, it feels like losing a lifelong pet or a family member.
I sold it because I basically live on campus now, and it used to sit in the garage 6 out of 7 days a week, collecting dust while I paid insurance. And I won't be done with grad school for at least another year or more. Plus maintenance on these cars is a ***** once you modify them.
But I will need a way to get around in the summer, and I was planning on getting a healthy Yamaha R6 or a GSXer. That's the only way the sale of the Z won't feel like a downgrade, because every other car in the price range would feel like a big step down.
But now my buddies are trying to talk me out of a bike, stating death and paralysis and all that, and I began to contemplate a beater for around $3-4k. Then I realized that, even with beaters, like an older Miata, I'd be tempted to throw a supercharger on it.
What do you guys think ? Should the replacement be a sportbike, or beater, or both?

i would say to get a beater and save up your money so that once u get out of grad school, you can get a nicer car.
bike imho is not worth it. i stopped riding my 04 r1 after one of my god friends passed away from a bad driver cutting him off...and seems like there are a lot of them on the road lately

Why not put the car on non-op and remove it from insurance?
Anyway, regardless of the reason, a bike in a crowded city area can be downright dangerous. However, when you ride one, you'll feel like you're a hairy-chested stud, and that feeling of invincinbility and security is what'll getcha.
I had a CBR600F3 for a while, but I decided against it since I wouldn't really save any gas money commuting on it and that I'd get a bike license, buy all the gear and deal ride in 112F heat. If the weather is anything less than "Great" then a bike will suck, very bad. If you play it safe, wear gear, take the MSF saftey course and don't get too cocky, you'll greatly improve your chances of surviving.
Wanna buy my miata? '94 with the 1.8L and torsen LSD

You will be missed. I'm switching camps too, albeit later this year.

A 240 Would be a great beater car which you could also end up modding and get it real nice. Best thing about them is that you can get it looking real nice with out spending that much.
