You should listen to your salesman, just like I listened to mine when he told me my car had a CVT tranny. EDIT: Or wait, the other salesman told me that the hood on the 07 was for safety reasons so that if you hit a pedestrian the bump will stop them from going through your windsheild... yep.

I did my break in period in 9 days. I couldnt wait a couple of weeks, so i drove all around north jersey through the hills and twisty roads, was actually really nice drive.

I follow the break it in how your ganna run it method . My car doesnt get redlined from light to light , but it may see the limited once a day. My engine speed always varies.

I took mine on a lot of long country drives too to break it in. Varied the speed, touched the brakes gently, all that good stuff. It didn't take too long to get the miles in.
But I plan to own this car up to 100,000 miles, if not more. Whatever it takes to get there (breaking it in gently, frequent oil changes, good wash and wax regularly, using premium fuel only) I plan on doing.

Two schools of thought, break it in slow (easy). Second, break it in like your gonna drive it (hard).
Truth is most modern engines need to be pushed a bit or they will not break in properly. Modern day sport bikes are actually broken in on dyno's.
The only weak link on these cars are the tranny's and you should take it easy on that thing for at least 5,000 miles.

I'm going to throw caution to the wind and follow the Nissan engineers' recommedations for my new '07. Why do so many people think that the manufacturer has some secret agenda when it comes to the break-in schedule on new cars? Answer me dammit!

2) because I've actually assembled my own motors in the past. Granted they were small block american v8s but there not that great of a difference when it comes to rings, bearings, etc.
The factory isn't telling you to do something wrong. they're just not telling you everything is all. They're covering their a$$.....and can you blame them? I agree that the trans may not be up to an instant flogging but some of that is a little exaggerated too. Most will tell you there's a break-in for diff gears too and, if they're setup right, no need there either.
