58 years old? Hell, I have a wart on my butt older than that. But you do need glasses.

I can hardly wait until we get a ferrari based shift system in the Z. Fowlman can drive. I've seen him in action. AT/ AT I think he'd beat most. I do enjoy my 6spd for the fun factor.
However, my race car is an auto. Hum.... I see more autos than sticks at the track.
Fowlman - I think you need a manual VB.... But, then again for the street... er, not. PM sent....

LOL - I'd love to see you stand in front of John Force and say that. - LOL !!!
Anyone that is serious about drag racing goes Auto. Heck even F-1 cars are a fantastic form of an automatic. They do not compare with a Z box but, there are good reasons to own one for the street.
I still enjoy pressing the clutch in and shifting myself. It makes me feel more in control than an auto does. jmho.

Heavy Clutch! OMG, what other cars have you driven? Go drive a linkage operated 4speed muscle car. If you weigh less that 160 your butt comes off the seat when you push in the clutch.

Very true statement. I don't know numbers but I would say 90% of the cars under 10 seconds in the quarter mile are automatic.
There are a few that can run that fast manual (john shepards talon for example. 7s still on the 5spd). But most prefer the automatic, like the supra 3speed.

Anyways, I've driven a number of 6spd Zs, and between the model years I couldn't really feel any big improvements. Shifting was like pushing a stick through a bag of rocks and the clutch was too heavy (more so than a sports car should be). So after driving the 07 and realizing not much has changed, it got me thinking that you guys have ***** and a ton of patience.
I could never tolerate such a transmission, since the Z is my DD. I just can't go a day without driving it, I really can't. When I was in Santa Monica on business in July, the one thing I missed the most was my car - over my gf, and family. I bet I'm not the only one, too.
Anyways, to me the manual mode is plenty of fun. But I know to you purists that clutch means everything. So my hats go off to you guys. I don't know how you do it, especially those who DD their Z, but it sure as hell does take some incredible patience.
/end girly man rant

Ah, the good old Borge and Beck 3500lbs pressure plates.... Those were brutal.
Then enter ... Centerforce. Centerforce saved my leg. I have one in my Firebird now with Dual Friction. I love those things. I fry fluid .... but, never fry a clutch now. ;-)
I miss manual linkages. They are more consistant but, they did take a bit more leg work.

i DD my Z and i never noticed that the clutch was heavy until i drove my dads C5 corvette and then as soon as i depress the clutch to start the Z its devistating. But then i tear the C5 a new on the high way and i realize that im like the coolest dude ever for driving stick.

the clutch is heavy but not the heaviest i have ever driven. i learned in my first car a h22 95 prelude with a stage 3 clutch and 8lbs fidanza flywheel now that was hard. but i will tell you they replace my z tranny once already because of it being hard to get into gear and a bearing noise. and the new one is worse to get in
