I would assume about the same if your not punching the gas hard all around town. The z shifts very early when your not stomping the gas. Anyhow i drive in tiptronic mode all the time.

Sounds like he means driving the auto in Tiptronic as opposed to driving in full auto.

What he meant is driving it on "manual mode" instead of automatic (just leaving it on "D").

Yeah the auto mode switches gear as soon as the manual mode will if your not heavy on the throttle. For regular around-town driving its probably more economical to use auto. But personally it annoys the crap out of me when it downshifts when I really dont want it to.

One thing I noticed is if you are in auto mode (D), going say 50mph, and shift over to tiptronic, it auto downshifts to 4th gear. Anyone know why. I guess it is because they assume if if you throw the car in tiptronic while in 5th gear (D), it is probably to speed up, so it shifts down to 4th to give you extra power?

Also I think it depends how you drive the car in tiptronic regarding MPG. Probably better mpg in auto seeing as it shifts as soon as it can.

Sure- if you can calculate shift points versus RPM better than a computer processor can.
