Don't fault the kid because folks got him a Z. I say, good for him! Deserve it or not, his folks felt it was right for him and I hope they know him better than we know the "stereotype." It's a helluva car but its not necessarily a "death trap." Kids die just as easily in Civics, etc. But the Z is A LOT of car, being RWD makes it all the more tricky to drive.
good point

That way, every scratch, ding, etc. he can "feel" as a ding in his pocket and understand how many pennies actually go into a $30k sports car.

Thank you, for someone seeing it from my point of view.

congrats on the z!! I'm also young (16) and just got mine a couple weeks ago, except i pay for mine, but nothing against you for having your parents pay for yours. Take the same advice that others gave me,don't worry about the older guys on here who hate on the younger guys.

As far as cheap mods go...there aren't any. Right now my car is stock except the injen cai that the previous owner put on. That would've been my first mod but now i'm gonna get the windows tinted instead and use the rest of my play around money to buy a helmet and go out to one of the tracks here with my buddy for my first autocross.

The best thing you can do is learn the car,go out to a track and get used to it. Improve your driving skills.ive already taken a couple basic defensive driving schools that really helped me out. Hopefully this summer i'll go to a more in depth racing school.

Don't be stupid with it and try to help me prove to people that just because we're young doesn't mean that we're immature and irresponsible.

Reminds me of a customer who bought there kid a 3 rotor twin turbo rx7. Kid blew the clutch not knowing how to drive it. Had me install a 3 puck racing clutch in which i informed his parents was not worth getting in his skill level. Car was so damn powerful it actually lifted the front wheels enough to have no steering after the install. 3 weeks later kid slams it into an 18 wheeler. DONE! lucky for him he survived. Im with Phantom Menace. I was lucky enough to get a car bought for me. I cherished it just because it was my only means of transportation. You have to teach your kids responsability then reward them after the fact with a nice car. Just throwing them a sick car from the get go is why the future looks grim.

Geeze why so much hate? He's on the forums here asking for advice so obviously he doesnt think he knows everything and while experience is a huge factor, being 40 does not mean you are a better driver than a 15 year old. Yes we can all point to statistics but again that is just stereotyping... give the kid a little slack, he didnt post on here asking something like how fast he can get the Z up to or how to do donuts.

That being said, S2K antenna and window tinting is relatively cheap. However, like someone else said, I think the best way to spend that money would be to invest it and take an advanced driving course. I took a Skip Barber 2 day class and it was awesome (drove a Viper ) and I learned many things that have saved my *** before, and you can even bring your own car and safely learn its limits on a track under professional supervision. The class was more than $100, but try pitching it to your parents or something as a gift or see if they will spot you the money. In terms of becoming a better driver, I think its the best thing you could do. If you can't manage to do that, try to head to a local track on an open day, you'll have a blast and can learn how the Z drives.

Ignore all the haters, you seem like you want to be safe and do things the right way. I had a heavily modified 350 whp AWD Talon when I was 17 and never got in an accident or even got a ticket, and bought my Z about a year ago when I was 21. Remember, the car will only go as fast as you want it to. Take it slow, follow the laws of the road, and you will be fine and will hopefully enjoy your Z for a long time.

And please, don't prove all these people right by being a jackass, ok? They have a reason to worry... RWD with the kinda HP and TQ the Z has can be tricky. Be safe bro and good luck.

Man must be nice@ 17 my first car was a '83 mercury capri which was rwd, now I'm 33 and just this year I got to afford a Z. I was more worried about paying for insurance back then that's why I never bought a supercar, but there is no hate as long as you don't fly past by me from light to light racing a sunfire or a beretta.

$100 bucks huh...well get yourself some Nismo mats from Riverside (vendor)
Then go to your local Honda dealership in your Z. Walk in and buy an S2K
antenna Walk outside, and put that baby on your Z. I think you might have just enough left over for a nice happy meal, and some ice cream.

My Dad is a supervisor for Verizon Fios for all of central Florida, and my mother is a guidance counselor at a local school. The car wasn't that expensive, more than most people's first car, but he got it for 10k, which isn't that expensive for a car like that.

Yes it does.

15 = too young to have a license, been driving for a couple of months on a learners permit.

40 = Most likely been driving for 24 years

$10k? Wow. That's a really good deal. Remember to post more pics when you have them.

No it doesn't. I said in my next sentence that obviously experience helps. My point is that there can be a 40 year old driver who has been driving since they were 16 and are just horrible at it, regardless of experience. And that a safe and reasonable 16 year old, minus experience, could be a better driver than the horrible 40 year old. Based on your logic, all senior citizens would be the Mario Andrettis of our roadways and we know this isn't the case. Also, many people start racing cars before they can drive on the road, not all driving starts when you can get your learners permit from your state.

At 40 you have a much better chance of being a better driver than a teenager, but it is not a given. I know plenty of older drivers with plenty of years of experience who still can't drive safely.

I gotta say, I've found that kids seem to engage in more irresponsible driving in slow cars that they think are impossible to crash because they're not fast enough. I for one pulled my dumbest stunts while driving an 89hp 1986 toyota camry, yet thankfully *knock on wood* have never been in any accident or even so much as pulled over. Honestly, with the Z being the first RWD I've ever extensively experienced, I've been 10x more cautious with it than I ever was with my 0-60 in 15+ seconds camry.

At the same time, it really depends on the kid. I suppose on the other hand, irresponsibility with one car can just as easily translate to another. My opinion is that none of us are qualified to really judge the kid. As long as he doesn't go out and prove skeptics right by becoming another statistic, then, more power to him.

My first pot of mod money, and still the most worth it, wasn't spent on the car but the driver. Go to a local track day and get some High Performance Driver's Education or an autocross. I never got completley comfortable with rear wheel drive until I did this and I swear the things I learned have saved my *** in daily driving dozens of times, plus its tons of fun and you won't regret it.
