5AT Manual Mode Question....
For those who got the automatic, I was wondering how well the manual mode works. I test drove a G35 a few months ago and was surprised by how the manual mode worked. Every time I shifted it to manual mode, it went straight to 4th gear. That made no sense to me since in my current Acura, when I shift to manual mode it stays in whatever gear I am currently in. Does the Z act this way as well?

Hi Todd:
I got my Z yesterday afternoon and haven't had a chance to drive it more than 140 miles. However I live in hilly and currvy country and have tried the Tiptronic several times. When I move over from Drive to Manual, it stays in the same gear I was in and then I can go either up or down with just a light tip of the finger. It is great for downshifting on the hills. I think you will love it. It also shifts very smoothly but still rapidly. A friend of mine who owns a 911 drove mine today. He says that manual is fantastic and actually shifts just about as fast as you can with a clutch but of course smoother.
