Question Bose blows

I must have the bad one of the crop. My 03 toyota camry sterio is by far better than my 03 Z bose system. Did I have a bad egg or did everyone else not turn the radio on yet.

go to any toyota dealer and play the camry sterio...you'll soon get my point.

got any quick fixes?

the crappy bose system in the touring's is a pretty big topic for a lot of people, its not just you. if you search the forums, theres a link somewhere to a petition to have nissan do something about the poor quality of the bose system.

I bought my touring in April 2003, there is nothing wrong with the stereo. Sure it could be better - I have never had a stereo that was 100% satisfactory, but it is not fundamentally flawed like some describe.

Actually I am pretty tired of people ranting about how this or that sucks on their Z. I love my Z, I will keep it forever, no car is perfect.

Default Please Excuse Us......

........for making you tired. We have most certainly forgotten our manners. Everyone knows you are supposed to pay extra for a "Premium Sound System" and say nothing when it sounds worse than a $20 clock radio.

What were we thinking? The proper thing to do would be to say nothing and quietly shell out thousands of dollars to replace the item we paid extra for. We most definately shouldn't bother either Nissan or Bose for selling us a sound system that in no way resembles the one described in the brochures.

Let the buyer beware........right? It is our fault for expecting to get what we paid for. I guess you told us. Thank you for setting us straight.

By the way, I love my Z too! The sound system has nothing to do with the car. It is an accessory...........not the car.

I for one am tired of having people admire my car and having to make sure the sound system is off. I am even more tired of having people reach in, turn on the Bose and tell me that there is no bass and that it sounds like crap.

So, I intend to keep complaining. If you ever see a thread with Bose in its title..........I suggest you skip by it. It will most certainly not be a thread praising the beautiful sound and rich bass of the system.........it will be a complaint..........and it will make you tired.

I love my Bose. And I am an audiophile. For a stock system its among the best I have ever had (along with my mach system in my cobra). I think the Bose issue was fixed mid year. My pro. date is 6/03.
Yes, I could use a little more bass, but for stock, my mirrors still pound and shake when the sub is hitting.

Blose has sent some of us letters saying they are working with Nissan to fix the 2003 sound quality issues. We've been waiting several months for this "fix".

Thank you for contacting us regarding your disappointment with the Bose Music System in your 2003 Nissan 350Z. The current performance level of this system does not meet our corporate standards and we are committed to rectifying the situation.

Please encourage your friends who may be experiencing similar problems to contact us. We will follow-up with you with more information when a plan has been finalized.

Thank you for choosing Bose Corporation.

That is from 8/13/03. The issue has not been fixed yet, although the very early cars got a bad audio pilot system that was fixed to some degree by an amp replacement. I think this fix for production occured somewhere around November 02.

My 98 GTP with just the 8 speaker Delco system sounds much better to me, and it didn't cost nearly as much as the jump from Performance to Touring (even considering the leather). The Bose to me sounds like the tweeters are out of phase or something, and the bass is very boomy.

EDIT for a year typo

My pro date is also 06/03. For a Bose stock system its THE WORST I have ever had. And thats in comparison to the Bose in my '97 Integra, '00 Maxima & '02 MDX. I'm 90% sure the gs-r was a bose.

In truth, the audio equipment in the Z is only partially Bose. That is to say, the speaker are in fact a Bose product. The amps are the main culprit. They are very small, and have very little in the way of power. This causes a lack of what the guys in the industry call "dynamic headroom". Speakers are passive. Tehy rely on the the quality of signal that they are given fromn a power and purity standpoint. When you give it more power, you will NOT improve the sound Q appreciably. You will however increase volume. You want higher sound Q in general, do a basic upgrade of deck and speakers. A sub will fill an acoustic gap that the mids and highs can never truly fill, but it can be a "phase 2" if you wish.

Good information, here. I have the Enthusiast roadster and although I'm satisfied with the stock system, being a convertible, I need more low-to-mid range when the top is down. With top up or when the top is down but at lower speeds, the sound is fine. I would have liked to have had the Bose, but it sounds as though I'm not giving up too much. Really what I miss is the changer. That, however, I can fix. BTW...had the Bose in my 02 Maxima, as well as currently in my 04 Maxima. The sound is great, and several people have commented favorably on the sound system, not believing it was stock. I don't know that you can ever get a stereo system the way you really want it in a car, but as I said, I'm pretty happy with my stock, non-Bose system.
