i hit 5K RPM on 130 miles today
it was by accident, will this possibly decrease engine life? i hit it from a stop expecting it to shift sooner (5at) and it didnt, it happened twice.
Dont worry....unless it had exactly 0 miles on it before you picked it up then it wasn't the first time. I test drove the living **** out of a bunch of new Zs.
Also I redlined mine at least 20 times before 1200 mi. I just couldnt help it. For the most part I was good but once a week:

No 5k wont kill the life of your engine. The fact is, if your car was test driven before you bought it i'm sure it has probabley been well over 5k. I was pretty good with my break-in but i did get it above 5k a couple of times. I have heard in the past that you should break it in like your going to drive it. I dont agree with that but the published break in is very conservative.
rest assured that your car is fine...

naw your fine, the manual states under 4000RPM for the first 1200miles. its a nice thing to do, but no definitive proof that it really helps, but it would seem it cant hurt either. better safe than sorry right? but your fine.

I've got nearly 1000 miles on mine and keeping it under 4k has proven to be impossible. I've had a number of runs to about 5k and today I couldn't resist and took it to 6k. Man this is fun!! I can't believe how efforlessly it accelerates. I can't wait till 1200 miles so I can stop feeling guilty about these high revvin good times

Did it a few times in the 350 and Max before they hit 1,200 no probs at all and they both will be a year old on Jan 6th with 13,000 and 11,500 miles repsectively. We did it with our previous Maxima's and Z's no problems with them either in hte long run.
