I did this in my friends s2k because i wasn't used to a decent non clunky-*** shifter, and threw it from 6th to 2nd going 55mph. It still runs fine a year later.

btw i'm no s2k fanboy, that was the lamest car in the world to drive.
Of course it would run fine a year later, that car doesn't redline until 60 in second. 55 mph is well within the second gear rev range.

My pistons always tell me they hurt after I downshift 3 gears. But my o-rings only strain when I downshift 4.

You would have noticed something immediately if serious damage occurred.

I know from experience. You ever hear a built Toyota 2ZZ engine with wide open exhaust ports and race exhaust at 12k rpms?

Uhh... If they're wide open ports, what's the point of a race exhaust.

If you know how to rev-match you can skip however many gears you want, the synchro's don't have to do any work. Are you trying to tell me that shifting from 6th to 2nd at 40 mph, with correct rev-matching, in my current car is like 40-60 regular downshifts? That makes no sense.

I'm guessing by his name that he has 4 turbo's on his car, so I can see how his pistons would be hurting. Still waiting on an answer on the o-rings though.

watch out for rod knock, or a spun bearing.. cut open your oil filter and check for metal.. don't let it happen again.

Meaning bent valves.

First of all, if it's 05 or older, you'll be fine. remember, they used almost exactly the same engine part for 05 anniversary with 7000 red line... unless you did over 7000 (which is NEARLY impossible going 4 to 2nd.), you'll be fine. if it's 06 or newer with high rev engine, i wouldn't know what to tell ya.

Bringing this back from the dead. I have done the same thing....it is not impossible to go over 7k. My car hit 8k. I was doing a pull (roughly a 1/4 mi) and was shifting perfectly, but went from redline in 3rd, to 2nd. I pushed the clutch in right away after letting it out, but it was scary. Everything runs fine and sounds great still, i think the bulk of the damage was to my clutch, which I'm fairly certain is OEM and I'm at 95k miles, so I'm not too worried.

I'm not new to manuals, but this is the shortest throw shifter I've driven.
