My father was….a drinker. And a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself from buying me my 370Z. He doesn’t like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. Turns to me and he says “Why so serious?” Comes at me with the knife,”Why so serious?” He sticks the blade in my mouth. “Let’s put a smile on that face!” And….. Why so serious?

Whats so wrong with a 17 year old getting a 350z? I graduated high school 2 years early (when I was 16) and started nursing school when i was 17.. my parents awarded me with a 350z and im paying half back over the years... I dont see anything wrong with that

To add my opinion in to this debate, I'm 18 and soon looking to purchase a 2007-2008 350Z. My parents have never paid for a cent of anything involved with me owning a car, which led to me not even having a car until I was almost 17. Paid outright with saved money for my 1991 Escort GT (see above), and I've always paid my own insurance and gas, although my parents seem to be ok with buying my sister cars, and paying insurance for her. Hmmm... favorites much? I've never been in an at fault accident, never gotten a ticket (fast driving belongs on the track). Luckily though I'm in an extremely good position and have a high paying job (for an 18 year old at least) so I'm able to take care of myself in that area.
I'd consider myself a respectful and deserving owner for a 350Z but at the same time I have to admit that probably 80% of the people my age can't handle or don't deserve owning one.
Anyway my list of cars.
-1991 Ford Escort GT 5sp (Still have it)
-1993 Nissan 300zx 5sp-My first modified and first track car (Totaled after getting hit by unlicensed driver)
-1972 Datsun 240Z (Sharing DD duties with the 'Scort until I get a 350Z)

I'm 42, and have had a few vehicles...
1955 Packard Clipper Constellation(helped rebuild with Dad, never drove)
1974 Datsun B210 Hatchback Coupe (Gift on 16th birthday in '83, did 300K mile engine rebuild)
1982 Honda C70 Passport (after joyrider stole and wrecked B210)
1985 Toyota Corolla (wife got t-boned, replaced with...)
1991 Toyota Xtracab with Wildernest camper (consigned to wife when I got a...)
1994 Honda Pacific Coast PC-800 (Which was replaced in 2000 with the...)
1995 Honda Del Sol (Current, Star Wars Charity Art car)
Also a whole buncha bicycles in there, regular and recumbent, when I was riding 50 miles round trip to work and back and was in terrific shape...
Now I'm working on finding a ZR.

Should not go overboard with a 350Z at a early age because teens think they are invincible. It would either make you or break you.

got my first car when i was 17... towards the end of my highschool life -__- (yep i thought having a car in highschool was neat omgparties) but didnt get to enjoy it much got it in March and i graduated 2 months after that :|
anyway list of my cars
1. 95 Ford Contour (age: 17)
2. 97 Honda Civic (age: 19)
3. 05 350z (age: 21) [got it 3 months ago]
that ford contour my parents bought it for like 1k... it was dirt cheap, the civic was like 2.5k. Crappy cars but perfect for a highschooler ~
as for the 350z... since i just turned 21 my credit was not good enough (still isnt) to buy a car, so my parents used their credit to get the loan and buy the car. (that was their graduation present when i graduated from college). I pay for the car though.

I'm 29 now, got my first car when I was 18.
1) '92 Chevy S-10 Blazer
2) '98 Pontiac Bonneville - motor blew up twice
3) '05 Subaru Legacy GT
4) '07 Chevy Trailblazer SS
I got the Z because I missed having a car. The Trailblazer would move quick but handled like the 4800lb truck it is.

I'm actually impressed to see an almost 7-year old thread still going, and have read most of it over the past few months... some interesting insights from young and old alike about the follies and exhilaration of sportscar ownage at early ages. It should continue proudly...
