In all honesty. No one here gives a damn about what youre like. Its an internet forum. That being said. Do whatever the **** you want. Its your money, spend it how you want. If you want a Z buy it. If you think its gonna kill you, then dont. Or risk it and buy it anyway. Just dont kill anyone else in the process.

By any chance..is your name.. Dugan?

Now this is what this thread is about.

You're trying to say you're one of the kids that makes his own money, is responsible, appreciate money, yada yada yada but then you mention that 13k isn't a lot of money.

Sure it's not 40k but 13k is not pocket change that you just fling at your kid(s).

I'm actually pretty young and have a Z for college as well and to be honest it's a bad idea. I can't carry much stuff with me, I pay a bit more for insurance (thank God for USAA) and have to worry about having a nice car and stupid drunk college kids messing with my stuff. I do enjoy not having to drive people to places though.

If you can, get a beater first car. It'll teach you how to drive, appreciation and other things. Then save your money for a better model than the '03.

isn't there already another thread for people to list all the cars they've owned?
I'm not very old (25), but my first car was a total beater...and my first kids car will be a beater..

I know in general younger drivers aren't responsible or mature and its definitely true. though, although, I've always got A's and B's in school (im homeschooled), I don't smoke or drink or do foolish things even when my friends do. I like to think I'm pretty reserved.

So then saying that, I was looking at a 350z 03 model with 48k miles for only 13k bucks. I'm buying it as a car for college. To be honest though the entire deal is pretty much a freebie....

So i just wanna see what you all think? Would it be a bad idea? should i get a corolla? lol ...

PS. i never speed or try to show off speeding or racing. I just like that car, like one likes a beautiful women and wants her..
13K "bucks" isnt a lot of money? keep in mind its about 50 bucks to fill this car up which will last about a week if you drive aggressively: and you will want to, insurance will be insane: no ones going to listen to you talking about not doing stupid stuff, and maintenance is a b****. If this is your first car then get a little import and drive that for at least a year or two. If you realize you make more than enough money and you realize how stupid other drivers are and still feel like you can handle a sports coupe, get it. And stop asking for opinions.. I understand if you ask about reliability, fun factor, problems, etc. DOnt ask us if we'll accept you driving a Z. wdgaf

$7000 saved now, another $100 per month, put away turns into $242,000 in 50 years at 4% interest. Never too young to start that. Buy a $6000 "beater".

It seems like it'd be more than that:/ in all fairness 250k is not much for retirement these days and will be even less in 50 years.

Well I'm 19, but consider myself responsible and knowledgeable enough to own a Z. Being a student at uti and working at a cadillac dealership, I'm not completely ignorant. I just got my 03 touring today but before this i had..

At 16: 1998 pontiac grand prix gtp coupe (paid for in cash by me)
At 18: 1993 Honda prelude S H22 built, sleeved, and turboed. (Also paid in cash. Sold for a down payment on my new baby.)

I got my first car the day i turned 16, and 1 week later started my "beutiful" driving record.

2002 chevy s10... v6 and competition sound system (f*cking loud)
1996 ford thunderbird... v8
2006 chevy impala... v6
XXXX GEO TRACKER was a beat when I lived in hawaii
2005 chevy s10... Again
2007 scion tc... bought new, had a week, totalled
2006 civic si... bought used had 6 months and sold for next car
1995 Mitsu GSX Eclipse.. loved this car but was pushing about 425hp by the time i sold
2007 YAMAHA R6 wanted faster
2006 GMC Sierra V8
2006 YAMAHA R1. got after I totalled my R6
2006 Dodge RAM single cab v8
NOW I HAVE MY 2005 350z Roadster.. and by far my favorite car. and the r1 got stolen about 2 months ago...

No one under the age of 25 should own a Z.

Yeah, I'd say this is a good general statement. There are exceptions to any general statement, however.

Agreed! Insurance is also a lot cheaper for ages 25 and above, especially if you have your own policy
