There are large discrepancies between the views expressed in Top Gear magazine & the TV Show Top Gear (go figure)
The Coolest 100 Cars 2003 List was issued as a booklet with Top Gear Magazine.

2 - Land Rover Defender
3 - Smart Roadster
4 - Audi RS6
5 - Mercedes Benz SL (1960's Pagoda type)
6 - Lancia Stratos
7 - Nissan 350Z
8 - BMW Z1
9 - Ford GT (new GT40)
10 - Mini Cooper (Original Mini)
Also of interest - CAR magazine Performance Car of the Year
1 - Vauxhall VX220 Turbo
2 - Mitsubishi Evo VIII FQ-300
3 - Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
4 - Porsche 911 GT3
5 - Nissan 350Z
6 - BMW Z4 3.0
7 - Volkswagen Golf R32
8 - Mazda RX8
9 - BMW M3 CSL
10 - Mini Cooper S Works
BTW - The Dodge Concept is called the Dodge Slingshot & will be officially unveiled in January at the Detroit Motor Show...
I believe this comparison. The RX8 is a lighter car and does handle very well.
I have a friend who's an amateur driver and he tested the Z and The RX8 a year and a half ago. This was done a few months before they were about to reach production.
He told me back then that the RX8 had a better suspension and that it was a better handing car. These cars were both crusher cars and were destroyed after long 16 hour tests in the San Bernardino Mountains.
I also owned a Toyota Celica and the lightness and the Suspension were very good. Hotchkis Tuning developed the Celica's suspension a bit more. It smoked alot high HP cars in road races and pulled 1 G on the Skid pad.
Suspension has a lot to due with road racing and so does the driver. Supension can out due HP because later braking and higher speeds in cornering can do alot to make up for HP in the straights.
There is no doubt the Z and the RX8 are a fair match in a road race event. The Celica showed me what a good driver and suspension can do in a road race.
I don’t think this comparison is far fetched because a lot of people have proven that the stock supension on RX8 out handles our Z.
