Anybody heard of a Z being stolen?
I ask this question because I wonder how the factory "alarm" is. Personally, I think it's a piece of crap, but over the life of this board, I don't think I've seen a thread about anybody's car being stolen.
I know there have been a few close calls, and that one guy in Mexico City got car-jacked, but I'm kind of surprised that nobody has actually had a car stolen. I have seen a lot of threads about how easy it is to open the windows.
Not hoping that it happens to anybody, just curious.
Who has DIRECT knowledge of a Z that was the victim of theft? I'm talking direct in either yourself (hope not) or somebody you personally know, not the "I heard about it at the dealer" or "somebody mentioned it at a meet" kind of stuff.

This is the only candidate I have seen. No body damage or evidence of a fire, and it was stripped. Can't think of any other reason for a stripped Z.

I think the car referenced in that thread was from a junkyard though. It might have been a totalled car (you can't really see the back end) and parts have been taken off of it by the junkyard itself and not necessarily by thieves.
I think it comes down to a few things.
first off, little market for the 350Z parts; commonly stolen cars typicly come from commonly broken/modified cars. such as civic SI, teg-R, old accords, cars that there are just millions of and are breaking down, leading to a market for the parts be it for replacements or upgrades.
the Z on the otherhand has little market, its also harder than average to steal. you need some fancy electronics or at very least a flat bed in order to steal it. (unless you can get a dealer to give you a key based on the vin number)
but simply put, there are better cars to steal than the Z. easier and more profitable.

Yeah, that's all true, but there are still some kids who would love to go for a joy ride in a Z.
I'm pretty impressed that there is so little theft, makes me feel slightly better about parking on a city street.
I guess vandalism is another thing though, we've sure had enough of that here.

little kids on joy rides would never get past the coded ignition. people that can bypass that sort of stuff are smart enough to not drive it themselves, and to part it out quickly. but no market for parts, so dont bother.
breaking a window and grabbing the stereo, thats another story. luckily we have bose! who the hell wants that?

the vq35 will be a hot commodity since it is recycled in virtually every new v6 nissan. the civic si and teg-r are stolen for their motors if anything. i forsee the z being a highly touted car in a few years... well actually all the VQ's will be.
My car wasn't stolen, but some tried to break in it. Those bastards pryed my door hand off from the door 3inches, cut the factory alarm, and cut the factory alarm trigger.

I know you had a similar problem, the body shop is charging me almost 900 to repair everything. ( dents, scatrches, and holes)

I guess we're lucky in that the Z is exclusive enough that it doesn't share that many common parts with another similar, lower priced car. By that, I mean like the Civic SI vs base Civic, or Integra GSR and base. Sure, the VQ is in every car made by Nissan, and I'm sure some of our parts would fit a G35, but, it's not exactly the same thing. Then, our car is not exclusive enough that people would want to steal it and ship it to somewhere overseas.
My 2002 S2k was stolen back in July 2002. Results looked very similar.....heavily stripped, even the freakin sun visors, really blew me away! However, I had the "AUTO LOCK" on the clutch which was still on the car when recovered. So they must of used a flat bed.....just goes to show. If they want it they will take it! To this day I am still very paranoid of my car being stolen, never wanna have to feel like that ever again.
At least with mine I got one of the satalitte alarms so if's it's stolen or carjacked or whatever I just need to call a number, put in my pin and can make the car shut off the next time it stops and will cut the starter so they can't get it to start again until I call in the number and re-enable it. Even the alarm remotes won't do them any good.
