Default GOT IT!! - on 9/11 even LANCASTER, PA 350Z

I picked it up today on the 1 year anniv. of 9/11.

Here's the car

Here's me and the sales, guy I am on the left, Lee Greenawalt from Lancaster Nissan is on the right handing me the keys, It was a heck of a windy day, bad hair pic (who cares, I got a Z )

Now I broke out these Oakley's. My wife got them for me for my birthday back in April, since I got the Lemans sunset they go with it, said I couldn't wear them until I get the Z.

Okay, I'll give my impressions later. I need to drive it some more actually right now. I'll be back on with a pre-broke in comparison between this and my Boxster S and Mustang Cobra.

Bye all, off to drive some more

Ya, I'm also insterested in the comparison. I'd love to drive a svt mustang, but the pompous (!?) ford dealer wouldnt let me test drive it. I know its going to be better, I just wanna know by how much.

Well, I had to do some driving. I have quite a bit to go yet for the breakin, but I've driven it enough to give some early comparisons and my thoughts.

I have 2001 Boxster S and 2001 Mustang SVT Cobra. I did get a chance to drive the 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra. The 2003 is 6 speed man, versus the 2001 5 speed man. The 2003 cobra is a much more drivable car going down city streets and 35/40 mph roads, since the 6 gives a much better gear ratio than the 5 spd. The suspension is much better than 2001. Now for some comparisons

1) Handling:
My Boxster S has the ehanced stiffened suspension and it corners like nobodies business, the car is smaller, lighter and mid engine. It's hands down by far the best for corners. It take some serious corners to break the tires lose, but even then you can really keep hold of the Boxster. The 350Z was alot bigger bulkier car than I expected, closer to the Mustang than I think the boxster in bulkage. It's a much stiffer suspension and you can feel the bumps, not quiet as jarring as the Boxster but pretty close. The body sway is really major compared to the boxster, but isn't as bad as the Stang. The 2001 stang is the worst, it's heavy body has a good bit of sway, it's alot of car and doesn't take much to break them loose. The 2003 is better, but I found the Z feels more comfortable around the corners.

1 - Boxster, 2 - Z, 3 - Mustang

2) Interior:
Well the Boxster is so freak'n tight, all the leather, hand built, the button **** everything is primo. I was much more impressed with the Z than I expected. The Z wins out for overall interior style and the nice futuristic look. The cloth seats are fantastic, perfect fit for me. The headroom is great. The buttons and ***** are pretty well, the dash feel solid, the gauges are nice, but the Boxster's is much more stylish (I will take some interior and guage shots to show the diff on the 3). The Mustang is a Ford and it's quite cheap interior wise. The Seats on the Cobra are the only nice thing, with leather and suede interior.

1 - Boxster, 2 - Z, 3- Mustang

3) Shifting/Clutch: I have to go with the Z for number one. The short through stick is great, the gear ratios are fantastic, this car is the most driveable down in 1, 2, 3 gears. The Boxster and the Stang are a pain to drive below 40. The short throw stick makes for some super fast shifting, the boxster is good, the Mustang in comparison is like driving a truck, you get a workout shifting the Mustang (but that's American Muscle). I noticed people complained about the stick vibration in the Z, man you gotta try my stang. The only thing that was kinda weird is the stick in the Z actually moves a bit when you let off on the gas in the lower gears. The clutch on the Z and boxster are pretty close, the Mustang's clutch is kinda sloppy, I also noticed the Mustang was very tight when I first got it and slopped up a bit, I have 12K on the Stang, 10K on the Boxster and the boxster is only slightly more relaxed than when I first got it. Be interested to see how the Z is after a few K.

4) Gadgets:
The Boxster and the Z are pretty close, I have nav systems in both, I like the one in the Z much better, it's got a joystick so you can move your view around, the Boxster lacks that. I liked that nav system feature on my wife's Acrua. Both the Boxster and the Z give you all kinds of guage info, temp, mpg, miles to fill up, etc, etc. Both the boxster and Z windows drop slight when you open doors, then slide back up to seal tight when you close the doors. The Mustang is way behind, really nothing special in it except Stereo.

5) Stereo. The Mustang and the Boxster Stereo systems are pretty sweet, I got the track so note the Bose, which I hear is horrible, the base is okay, I like more than one CD. The Mustang wins the Stereo war with the in 6 CD in Dash and some wicked sound coming. The Boxster is close, but it's got 6 CD changer in the front trunk, the nice thing about it is the intergation into the computer system for the nav, etc.

I can't really do much more til I have had time to break in the Z and really drive it. For 0-60 launching, etc - Between the Stang and Boxster, I am faster in the boxster, I get a quicker launch off, the stang goes great, but it's a heavy body and you can break the tires loose really easy, which I find is fun so I do it quite a bit. The Stang kicks butt for burnouts

You mentioned the integration of the nav in the Boxter. Does the Z's nav integrate into the stereo so voice comes through there?

awesome comparisons- I thought the Z would be closer to the boxster in the handling department- I've driven a 97 boxster (base, 201 hp), w/ sport package- it was only a 10 minute test drive though- hard for me to compare...

my friend has an '03 SVT Cobra- I think we'll get together soon to do a side-by-side-

Unhappy

Chuck, I also reside in the Lancaster area and yesterday I checked out Nissan's website and saw your car listed @ Lancaster Nissan. I immediately called them to see if I could at least sit in the car to get a feel. But the manager informed me that you already came to pick it up (early afternoon).
