I was just at the dealer yesterday checking out a 370Z Nismo and something occurred to me. Why does everyone make a big deal of leaving (sports) cars outside for winter, especially if you don't have a cover etc.?
I was thinking..that Nismo is most likely going to be sitting on the lot up until the spring. Many new, or close to new, cars sit outside for months, including the winter, so why is people freak out about leaving cars stored outside? I'm sure most 350zs and 370zs are kept outside even when they are brand new, mine being an exception because it was in the showroom

Those cars are constantly washed, started, moved, test driven, etc. They dont just sit and also they switch out the display cars every week
I have seen many dealers leave the hoods open in rain and snow. Just doesn't seem smart. And most of these cars sit with the same oil as well. None of them are driven as often as they should be.
If they are smart they will bring the 370z inside their showroom. I worked at a Chevy dealer and they did this with a camero, it ended up selling in spring. But dealers hate when cars sit especially over 90 days.

Thats because they getb taxed on inventory they have and thats crazy because where i grew up in LA, I lived by the biggest auto square in SoCal and on every sunday you could see them around 9pm switching out the cars or driving them around and in the mornings everyday they wash them, and they never keep the hoods open unless its in the showroom

My Titan KC LWB, for example, has to stay outside all winter as the garage just isn't big enough. It gets pretty dirt, to say the least, as those winter snows falls, melts and leaves a residue behind.
Will it permanently damage the finish? No, but it can't be good for it and will require a good wash, clay and polish next spring. Freeze and thaw cycles can also affect the truck.
