Default Bye Bye 03 transmission

Well the time has finally come where the infamous 03 synchros finally went out. At just under 60k miles I have lost 3rd gear and Reverse and this weekend will be putting in the CD009 transmission as it's replacement. I will also be replacing the original transmission mount. For those that have done the swap at what mileage did your synchros go out?

Didn't plan on it but now you got me thinking that I better do it cause if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any at all...

Glad I can spend money for ya. Haha To me it only makes since because you already have it dropped

**edit... throwout bearing too for peace of mind

Edit x2.... if you think you may need a clutch, now is the time to do it

I've been wanting to do this because my 3rd gear synchro is starting to go. I just can't afford to drop nearly $2k right now.

For learning's sake.. If you are swapping from a cd005 out of an 03 to a cd009 out of a newer z, do you have to also do the clutch for that trans? Or is it engine specific? Hopefully that makes sense?

Gratz on finally getting the upgrade, I second doing the fork while you are at it with upgraded pivot ball. I am planning on doing the same upgrade next year.

You will really like the CD009 transmission... It's MUCH better than what you had.

105k on my 03 and still going, although I am uncertain if the PO replaced it. I do take it easy on her until the fluids warm up, seems to help a ton.

Silver Bullet what all did the kit come with? Is it just the trans? $16xx doesn't seem terrible. I may pick one up and swap it before mine goes so I can sell my 03 trans as a working unit.

Replace the dual-mass flywheel, clutch disk, pilot bearing, and throw-out bearing. Make sure you have the newer fork. Make sure you bleed your slave cylinder (I'd replace it) and also reset your pedal self adjuster.
