Question Need help. Buying 350z tommorow.

This is my first post. I am buying a 2004 350z tommorow afternoon. It's a 2004,silver ext, black cloth interior, Base, 6 speed, 71k miles, clean title. It's procharged, has a fluidyne radiator, ID injectors, walbro fuel pump, test pipes, and dual aftermarket exhaust. New tires, brakes. Only has 4k miles on setup and was Dyno tuned by JK tuning in Lancaster,pa. I'm paying $8500 for it. Well actually got a loan for it. It makes 410whp. There's a bunch more stuff done to it (the guy is actually making a list tonight), he said it was bulletproofed and is basically at a safe horsepower level to drive daily. It does have stock clutch. He only drove it 6 miles round trip a day and was well maintained. The guy is around 50 and seems like he has been straight up with me the whole time. He did a full compression and leakdown test before he put the procharger on, and did a complete go through with all maintenance parts including starter, alternator, belts, etc.he is also giving me receipts, boxes, and paper work. Looks completely stock on the exterior. Just wanted any advice before I sign loan papers. What to look for, is this a fair deal, etc. (Btw, I am a manager at a local automotive center and I have the experience, tools, space and time to work on this as this going to be my daily project and then in the winter my full blown project) also transmission seems smooth shift and clutch feels tight. THE only "problem" if u would consider it one is it is running very slightly lean and he said it needs just a tad bit more fuel to possibly get it returned. Any suggestion or advice is appreciate.

PS..sorry for the long post but I didn't want to leave anything out...thanks

It sounds as though this is a well maintained 350z with conservative and thoughtful upgrades.

With that said, you need to be aware that this 2004 car is worth $4k or less because of its age. The customizations and additions do not add value, and might even reduce the car's worth. Check the book value for the year and model, and do not pay more than this amount.

Sometime It depends on what the value or worth means to you, with all the upgrades if they were done in a professional and accurate manner you might believe it's worth every bit of the asking price but it's a good rule of thumb to get what the actual value is and go from there, most car enthusiast like to get a bone stock car and make his own decisions on what upgrades to make to his liking therefore customizing it himself. In that you will find the most pleasure and create the bonding process with your car.

Ummm. yes, I would definitely consider this a problem... of the first degree.

"FI" and "lean" in a single post is a recipe for disaster. Tread carefully..... especially since it's "financed". Damaged collateral has zero value. Keep that loud pedal quiet until this is resolved.

Lean and 410whp is not great. I would never drive my turbo Z if it was leaning out. Also, how lean are we talking about 12.5:1 or are we talking about 15:1 in boost?
In addition that stock clutch is going to start slipping eventually with the power so consider that something you're going to have to do.

If I am not mistaken, I believe the '04 6mt Zs came with the CD008 transmission, which is known to be problematic. When you test drive the car be sure to try shifting into higher gears to see if it grinds, if so you can bet the synchros are on their way out. Nissan resolved most of those problems with the updated CD009 transmissions, which typically sell for ~$800 depending on mileage plus another ~$800 for a new clutch/flywheel kit.

This.

Also - To go along with what Sparta said - If I remember correctly, the 2004's came with both the cd008 and the cd009 trannys depending on the manufacture date. The 008 transmission has 3rd gear (well, mostly 3rd gear) syncro issues that really suck the fun out of driving them. $8500 for a FI 350z seems a little too good to be true and either way, if someone took the time to add another 135hp to that Z they also spent time with the gas pedal on the floor enjoying it.

I would look for a car stock car and add the upgrades you want, plus if you don't do it yourself you can find a reputable shop and you know it's done correctly vs some random shop or person that installed all that.

Default Just bought it Wednesday!! Want some advice

Just picked it up Wednesday. When I drive it home I fully inspectected it and the only thing it needed was a full detail. The main belt on the procharger needed replaced and just did that Thursday night. Did a Mobil 1 0w30 oil change with a mobil oil filter. I also found out that he had installed a snow performance meth kit but never finished hooking it up. Just needs pump and tank. It has the solenoid, wiring, hoses, injection, and switch already hooked up. I went over the car with a fine tooth comb and the only issues are...
1. Needs a retune
2. The driver window regulator was replaced and needs synced???
3. The check engine light comes on because there is a small crack in the flex pipe in the exaust.
4. Driver seat has a tear.

I'm getting a air/fuel guage and boost guage.
JWT clutch assembly with aluminum flywheel
Then Dyno tune in beginning of September.
After that, the sky is the limit.
????? What are your opinions? What would you recommend me doing next? Also how about a built bottom end and more boost? I am going to have around a 6-7k budget in the winter and 8-10k in the spring. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Daily driver, big horsepower. Want it to be named the Catkiller because everyone around here seems to have a Hellcat.

Congratz on the pick up! Do yourself and everyone a favor. Learn to drive within both your and car's limits, and do not street race. Good luck!
