Default Who has vinyl wrapped the roof? Any tips?

Title says its all. I have a pearl white Z and tomorrow I'm going to vinyl the roof (and the wing... and put a painted front lip and mud guards and side splitters on but I'm getting off topic..).

Who has done this job? Some videos say to take off the the covers on the side over the pillars above the doors but they don't show you how they did it. I'm quite afraid of cracking/bending/breaking them trying to pop them out of the tabs.

Also, someone at work told me there's some sort of credit card trick to cutting and folding the vinyl under the windershield strip of weatherproofing rubber...? Anyone know this trick and have a vid that shows it? Honestly, I wasnt completely listening to him at the time he was explaining it and now I regret it (he was on vaca this week)

I first thought of a Florida style padded/landau roof when you said vinyl!

Wow, that is top is bad. What a way to ruin a Z. It's like an old man version of the Z. It's like the result of a 350Z mating with a Buick LaCrosse

The roof is hideous but I wouldn't insult older people by saying it is an old man roof. I'm old, but my Z doesn't look too bad.

I'm talking like 90 years old. Yes, I see people that old in cars with the rag top. I doubt you are that old. People live forever now

Super easy, I did take the pillars off though. Since the vinyl has adhesive backing, I really don't see how you could sneak it under the weather stripping to be honest. Watch a Youtube video on how to remove them, you'll be alright.

It'll be an expensive thing if you break the tabs on the pillars be careful. I have a carbon roof but I didn't do it myself. I'm pretty strictly against vinyl on the outside of my baby.

Just don't go cheap on the vinyl, use only premium vinyl. Be sure to wipe the top clean before installation. Use as little heat as possible, its what gets new installers in trouble.

I am totally against unprotected paint, my car has all original paint except on the aftermarket aero parts. Going bare back out in the wild is dangerous.

Lol, as long as we're talking PPF and not vinyl sure. None of my car is original paint, also not a factory Z color. =D

Well, I got all the other work done on the car today. Successfully got the pillars off. I tried doing the vinyl on the roof but I was getting tons of bubbles and then it all started creasing. I gave up. I was exhausted by that point anyways. I feel like the vinyl wrap piece was way too sticky. Even tried it wet. Spraying some water on the adhesive surface. Still wouldn't work for me.

Theres a guy at work who wraps his own cars. I guess I will see if he will do it with me come spring. Oh well, I tried

I have ppf over vinyl on some of my other cars. I get bored of colors and change up every couple of years.

I have a friend like that, would switch wheels 1-2 times a year lol. I just get bored of the same thing, I typically don't own anything over 5 years, not even jobs. My Z is my only constant, I choose everything I get wisely because I only buy it once, unless I upgrade that part. My color scheme is set in stone tho.
