oh ya I forgot about the hardtop issue, I havnet had experience with it just ridden in a few of them. It makes a slight difference but I would never get one unless for track use, because I enjoy putting down the roof at will.

 

The S2000 is THE SPORTS CAR for those upgrading from a Honda Civic.

That's where you'll find some truely satisfied owners.

The S2000 is different, and is not the car for everyone.

Z is just a little more down-to-earth-all round-good-guy of a sports car.

And anyone who says that the Z is not a sports car is just being bias.

 

I have to disagree with not being able to get very much in the Z. I can get two suitcases in the back. The typical airline carry-on fits right under the strut tower followed by a larger size suitcase as well. I shopped for a luggage set that I knew would fit in the back because I heard this was a big issue. It turns out that most sets I looked at would have fit.

A medium sized cooler easily fits in front of the strut tower – accessed by the driver or passenger. A laptop computer can easily be held upfront – on the lap or folded on the floorboard. Additionally, the front passenger has decent accessibility (with a decent reach) to most everything in the back without having to get out of the car.

This is a great touring car if you're going on a road trip. Nice power band, great high-speed stability, and plenty of room up front. I could easily take this car on a cross-country drive. I'm 6-2 240 lb and as much as I love the S, after a period of time, I begin to feel very cramped.

This is really where the two cars are very different. They were intended to be very different in this respect. The S was designed as a topless track car while the Z was intended to be a touring hatchback. One is not better or worse it just depends on what you want as an owner.

 

ya i understand your point, I am just talking about big stuff in general lol, like hauling a tv or something that would fit in a sedan Actually I have taken a 3000mile trip in the S and I was really comfortable with it, albiet it was by myself so that helped.

 

TWO WORDS (TARG- TOP), If nissan would make targa tops i think that the 350z would be the most sought after car in the world, that's just my .02.

 

It seems like they are already the most sought after cars. I swear I see 20 of them a day on my way to work and back. I like the S2K cause you don't see that many of them on the roads.

 

I see the same amount of s2k's and Z's on the road in my area.

 

I own an S2000. Most girls couldn't even drive an S2000 the way it's supposed to be driven. Most of them just could not handle the cars raw nature correctly or take advantage of the what the car offers in terms of performance. Most girls can't even drive a 6 speed anyway. It ONLY comes in a 6 speed.
Definitely not a car for a girl!!!

 

I rearely see either of these cars very often. Most of the people around here (retired) drive their big cadillacs and town cars. LOL. There is one S2000 at my school and the kid that drives it has this huge afro! LOL. If he had the top up he wouldn't fit in it.

 

I really like the S2K and wanted to get one but I went with the Z instead because:

* there weren't any reasonably priced S2K's in my area
* I'm not too keen on soft-tops
* the Z literally blew me away like no other car ever has

I don't think they're chick cars at all...in fact, I've never seen a woman driving an S2K.

 

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead but....I wonder why no mention of stock class SCCA solo II racing results have been posted? For the last 4 years the S2k has been in BS along with the Z. Basically, if you wanted to win at a national level the Z was the wrong car. The S dominated so soundly that it has been moved the next difficult class as it has regularly placed in the top of that class as well if you compare raw times.

It's quite obvious that the reasons people have given for buying the Z over the S are related to:

1) Sexual insecurity
2) Personal physical proportions
3) Powerband preference
4) Cruising comfort

BTW, I instructed at a novice school last year and I had the chance to flog a Z for about 12 runs. My impression follows:

Heavy and floppy, disconnected drivers feel, open diff in a rwd car is the devil, the power band gave no indication of when to shift so I hit the rev limiter routinely, the suspension bottomed out in the front more than once and was quite disconcerting... blah blah blah... Let me just say that I beat my times in my S by .1 sec and the Z had R compounds and I was running my S with bald street tires. I had a respect for the Z but after that, my opinion changed drastically. Now I understand this was probably the lowest spec'd model so take this review with a grain of salt. The track or what ever it's called probably would do better. An LSD would do wonders but I seriously doubt you could get rid of the understeer while following SCCA stock class rules.

I think there is a 5th reason you should add, the S2000 isn't as hot of a car as when it first came out in my opinion. Technical ability-wise, it might be superior to the Z in many aspects but to me, it looks way too similar to a miata stock. If we're comparing stock to stock, the Z is a much nicer car in my opinion. Plus, not everyone wants a convertible. I for one did not want one.

I'm not gonna do the pros vs cons of a S2000 and 350Z that has been debated enough. But seriously, I sold my '01 S2K about 3 weeks ago and was looking at purchasing an '02 S2000. I did go and test drive another 350Z because I was thinking about getting that or the S2K. So then over the next 2 weeks me and my girlfriend kept track of how many Z's we saw and if the driver was male or female. The result? Combined, in 2 weeks we saw 29 350Z's.. and 25 of the drivers were female!!!!!! I don't know what it is about the Z but women love driving that car. In the same time period I saw 8 S2000's and all the drivers were male. I think the 350Z is way too common and too much of a "girly car". So what did I do? Went and purchased my 2002 S2000 last Saturday..

why the hard feelings man? It's a personal opinion. I think the Z has a much more timeless design than the S2000. It's purely cosmetic. I like this and you like that, what's the big deal.

If the S2000 is so great, I wonder why you are on the Z forums.

Daily driving without reving up, the S2000 feels like a civic. It becomes a monster after 6K rpm, which is an amazing feeling on the track!!

But guess what, daily driving, I don;t want to drive a car that rides like a civic below 6 grand. Sorry, that is my personal opinion.

And it's weird how 25 of 29 drivers were women. I've only seen ONE girl driving a Z to date. And I travel around, I'm not talking locally. Maybe it's a TX thing? Or maybe it's girly men with long hair?

 

It's quite obvious that the reasons you are here and not over at s2ki.com relates to:

1. Purchase Insecurity.
2. Being a skinny girly man.
3. Love screaming 'SHIFT V-TEK' 'SHIFT V-TEK' on every shift.
4. Comfortable being yourself

I'm here because I think the Z looks cool and I was curious as to what you dudes thought of the S2K. I did a search and read through 12 pages of mostly drivel. I felt obligated to add some substance.

Peace out fellow car dudes. I like the Z. I really do... but "purchase insecurity"? No way. And after reading some threads on here about how these cars are falling apart, I'm even more pleased with my little tank.
