Default Oil Consumption

My '04 G coupe has 15k miles on it. During that time, the car has burned through 8 quarts of oil. Between the 7500 and 15000 oil changes--yes, since I use Royal Purple full synthetic I change my oil every 7500 miles--I added a quart to it. It seemed a bit low, but since getting an accurate reading with this dipstick is virtually un-possible, I didn't want to add more for risk of over filling. Well, today I did the oil change and there was no more than a quart left in the engine! In 7500 miles, the car burned through 5 quarts of oil. I have never had an oil spot left under my car when parked, so it doesn't seem like a leak. I haven't noticed any blue smoke coming out the exhaust either. The oil is just disappearing. In searching, I came across a couple of people with Z's that had similar issues, and Nissan replaced their engines. Has anyone here had any similar experience?

This is very interesting, and tragic. I don't have the G or the 350z, but I put in 200,000 miles in a VQ30. VQ shouldnt burn oil. If the people with similar problems got their engine replaced, I think you should too. This is definitely not normal.

Do a search on oil consumption. I've posted extensively on this topic. The VQ engine should not lose any oil. There have been a few bad engines out there, mine included, and they should be replaced by Nissan under warranty. My engine consumed oil like yours, so Nissan replaced my bad engine with a brand new one at around 7000 or 8000 miles or so. You need to do the same. Good luck.

talk to your dealer. They'll do an oil consumption test more than likely

speaking of checking oil...$100 bucks to the first person who can show me how to accurately check the oil through the dip stick. Everytime I check, there is oil all over the stick and I have no clue how much oil I have left in there. So far Turning Japanese and I found the only way to see how much oil you have left in the engine is to do an oil change and measure how much oil comes out.

I check my oil after the car has been sitting in the garage over night. When the engine is cold the oil is thicker and sticks to the dip stick better and doesn't run all over the place. We all know that this dip stick is hard to use and takes time getting use to, but I have know problem now, after playing with the dip stick about 100 times.

PM me for my address so you can send me the $100 bucks..

By the way, out of curiousity, when and what steps do you go thru to check your oil. Are you checking it right after you drive it or something??

Real oil has certain sediments and other things that actually help seal the motor up, so if you went to full-synthetic oil immediately, then it's quite likely that you could be burning off oil at a minimal rate.
