Question Is it true? (sort of long)

I have been trying to nail down an order number from my dealer now for almost three weeks. This is after a month of the salesman trying to locate the car. The salesman keeps putting me off and tells me he will call me when he gets it, then I don't hear from him. My car was supposedly ordered May 1st, but I haven't been able to confirm this yet.

Anyway, I went up to the dealership last night to get in the guys face and see if that would accomplish something. He still couldn't come up with the order number. Supposedly he doesn't know how to pull up the number in the computer and the guy who knows was out. He then assured me once again that the car had been ordered. As some sort of proof he tells me that the dealership can only special order one car per month outside of thier normal inventory and that mine was the one that was ordered this month. I kind of already know the answer but can anybody confirm if this is true or not?

Sounds to me like they are giving you the run-around. Did you sign a contract and put any money down? If so, you will have to stick with them but if not, then I would talk with other dealers.

I don't believe they are telling the truth. You might want to look into a new dealership if you haven't put any money down. I just ordered a Z from a dealership in KC and I get a call every so often with an update on the process. If you want to make the haul to KC, I can give you a good reccomendation for a salesman.

I ordered my Z weeks ago and it was supposed to be here yesterday but I got a call that the ship hasn't reached the port yet and it might be another week. My dealer gave me 2005 Altima to drive until the Z gets here and with the amount of miles I average a day I think they know its in their best interest to get my car here.

My dealer says it is difficult to track the order because once it leaves Japan they come up with an ETA and it changes depending on weather, etc....

I can't wait to get mine!

Dood, there are plenty of places that are willing to do good business with you, and take your money. Drop em like a bad habit and go elsewhere.

Thanks for all of the responses. I am all too aware that this salesman has been jerking me around the whole time, and I figured this was just one more thing he was lying to me about. There is nothing I would like to do more at this point than cut bait with this guy and find someone more willing to sell me a car. The only problem I have there is that I do have a deposit in with him, so I may be stuck. What I really want to find out is if he has actually ordered the car or not. If he hasn't I was going to ask for the deposit back. If he refuses, I have a couple of methods of recourse I am contemplating. I just need to figure out a way to definitely nail down that he has not ordered the car before I go at him for the deposit.

Weeks ago? and it should have been delivered already? You're kidding. I have to wait 3 months and you're telling me you get your's in a few weeks? Something doesn't add up.

Yeah, I was told it would take 60 days after they place the order to get the car, and it was 30 days before that when I actually put down my deposit. A few weeks seems like an extremely quick order turn around for a special order.

I am actually at day 50 since I put my deposit down, and the salesman hasn't been able to provide me with any sort of proof that he has done anything other than take my deposit. That is what spawned the question about wether the dealer was lying to me agian or not.

I called the dealer again today and they were still unable to provide me with an order number. He told me he had some sort of order confirmation sheet, but it didn't have any numbers on it. I finally called NNA today and they are going to try to track down my order number. I would think that if the dealership gets a call from nissan directly and can't provide them with the information that they want, that would be pretty good evidence that they never placed the order.

tell them you want to speak to the GM of the dealership and that you want your deposit back because you can't get a straight answer. S*** if it's a check it's even easier, just cancel it they won't get the money. If that doesn't work you can get the Regional GM also.

My best friend at NNA told me that Nissan dealerships should give you a loaner if you are waiting for the Z AND applied your down payment. He also advised me that trade-ins should also recieve a loaner until you recieve your new Z. This way are not responsible for reducing the value of the trade.

I just got an update on my car. I called nissan north america to investigate my order and see if they could come up with an order number for me. The guy I spoke to there called the dealer to check into the situation and called me back today. He was unable to get an order number from the dealer as well but the dealer assured him the order had been placed. Supposedly the car is being built right now, but it won't arrive to the dealership until mid to late september.

WTF??? I was told by the salesman it takes 60 days after the car is ordered for it to be delivered. I placed the order with the salesman March 31 and the dealer wasn't able to order it until May 1. Going on that the car should be here somewhere around the end of june or the beginning of july. What is supposedly a two to three month process has suddenly turned into a seven month process. I say it again, WTF??? I have never had so much hatred for a car dealership in my life.

Anyway, thanks for listening to me rant. I will be headed to the dealership tonight to get my deposit back. If they refuse I already have a lawyer on retainer, and a rough draft of a letter I will be sending to the BBB and the attorney general. I hope things don't get that messy, but I guess it is good to be prepared.

Good luck. HOwever, don't ever put any deposite again when you want to purchase a vehicle. Personally, I don't believed that "putting deposite and order your car" crap. That was just there as a strategy to sell you the car in the future when they don't even have one now.

You should just call around, and tell all the dealerships near you and tell them you want to buy a Z, and you are ready to buy one now, so who ever has the Z you want in stock has the first chance to earn a business from you. Some dealers will work hard to locate one for you, and some dealers will call you when they got one. And if none of the dealer has one this month. Call them again next month and tell them the same thing. This is better than you put deposite and stuck with one dealer (which is what they want)

the Key point is, you are the customer, and the money is in your hand. let them work for you. It's their job anyway.

2nd thing is don't belived that mark-up crap. so many dealers tried to do that to me, but guess what there are always few dealers want to sell you a car more than anyone else, and willing to drop price. I found 2 dealers in S.Cal that are willing to give more than $1500 off the MSRP.

If a dealership are not willing to work with you, just simply walk out. That just mean they are a bad dealership.
