I don't think anyone needs to be criticized as "abusing the gifts they are given".
The bottomline is this...you don't know for certain. So let's let this topic rest and move on to something more constructive.

SeedyRom,
I did miss your post above and hope you understand my tone probably would have been different if I had read it first. I certainly hope no one has gotten into trouble over any pics...

I am glad to see the TONE of this thread mellow a bit. After all, we are all glad to be here and have info to share. It would appear no malicious intent has been displayed. Glad you have come full circle to a gentlemans agreement and acceptance of each others opinions. Obviously, we would not wish to degenerate to the level of another board that we all know.(And generally do not like.)
Seedyrom, I appreciate you're comments. Please feel free to post any and all opinions. We do not censor opinions, rather inappropriate behavior.
As for the rest of you. You know me as a regular. No harm, no foul intended. Have a good day.

Well I for one love a good debate. But I always like an amicable ending to one too.
Seedy,
I totally see your point. However that is the fine line a site like this walks...are we a news source or a rumors and spy shot kind of site? Hard to say?
Stepping on toes? That I can't speak of. I think if people sit on information and pics it defeats the purpose and the spirit of this site.
If I wanted to wait for all the info I would continue to drive on over to my local bookstore and read C&D, R&T or Car Magazine. But I think the vast majority come here for the 'insiders' scoop. And I think that in some ways that will **** off the powers that be...but that is the price they pay for a product that is highly sought after.
Besides I am pretty sure this is all Doc Bonz fault!
He's a wiley one, he is. Are you out there Bonz?!?! Heh heh.

I just typed out a loooooong *** winded message and then something happened and my browser went down.
In the words of Eric Cartman.... son of a .......
I was sleeping so I missed this whole thing. I don't think SeedyRom is trying to be the bad guy here. He knows people at Nissan and heard of some **** hitting the fan when things were made public. Spy photos etc. He is just sort of defending his friend(s) I guess. I have to understand and respect that.
However, Jeff is my friend and as such, it's my job to say something on this matter.
I am listed on Nissan's press list and they have all my contact info. They have my name/phone number/address/email, the whole ball of wax.
When the spy photos emerged, I contacted them and told them I had images of the car shot from the parking lot and outside the main building in Carson. I told them these were public in appearence in that anyone walking by would have or could have seen these. No laws like breaking and entering or tresspassing occured so was I allowed to post them? The person I spoke with at Nissan said they couldn't see why not. I wish I had gotten a name so if they do come back and ask why I posted, I can tell them who to talk to.
The same response that Jeff got when he asked if he could photograph the car. There were no conditions made on this. No "don't you go posting these online" type of things. The employees that Jeff encountered were just as excited as jeff was to see the car and they had no objections with him shooting photos. If ANYONE with Nissan had asked Jeff or myself not to do these things (shoot the car/post the photos), make no mistake... they would not have been made public.
I know this because Jeff sent me a batch of photos and then emailed me right away asking me not to post some shots because he didn't want those people catching any heat worse case scenario.
In my opinion, Jeff did what any Z freak would have done with a digital camera in hand. Wait... no, he was polite and he ASKED first. I myself would have been too excited to think straight enough to ask. haha
I'm not jumping on SeedyRom here by the way... I just clued in some might think that. Nope, not at all.
I am just stating that I really don't think the info/photos being out is a huge thing. The info (stats wise) is not final but it is the info Nissan printed to their press kits for magazines and media etc. I doubt even though I am on their press list that I'll be seeing one of these kits... haha
I do expect the numbers to change a little and yes, there is still a few goodies that have not been made public as of yet. I am not saying a word.
Nissan knows all about "JmanZ" and my posting of images before they are public. I have been following the Z for three years online, from the first concept Z I posted at jmanz.com to now at this site. At my earlier site, jmanz.com, I was one of the first to post images of the 350Z long before they showed it in Japan in 2000 and the ip addresses told me Nissan saw that I had done this. They knew of my site, heck, eventually they had to. I was getting 3000-4000 unique perople per day to the Z section at jmanz.com (now moved all over to here of course). I have a friend in Japan as I've stated on many an occasion, he supplies me with the goods from time to time. Did Nissan email/phone/write me? Did they ask me to cease and desist? No.
Now with all this new info, there are an average of five ips' from nissan-usa.com coming through this site. Has ONE of them said ANYTHING to me? Nope. Not one email, private message, letter, phone call. I have to believe if they were freaking out, they'd have asked me to stop or at least remove certain things.
They haven't contacted me and I think it's because we're creating a stir about the car that they're benefiting from. I have had dealerships cointact me asking me if I am accepting advertisers because they themselves come to this site and have sold cars to users of this site. I know some 350Z's were sold after people came here, read about the car and joined in our excitement.
We are easily the largest dedicated 350Z site online and that is only growing. I think as much as Nissan hates us (if they do that is), the love us as well. Sure, we're a thorn in their side, but we're helping their PR department in a way that is costing them nothing. We clear the crappy threads and posts from people insulting the car. We clear false info the second we can and we don't post info unless it has been confirmed to some degree by multiple sources.
I don't think Nissan has issue with us or they'd have contacted me. That's just my two cents.
We're all fighting for the same side here, right?![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Yeah, I REALLY doubt that Nissan has a problem with this site or any about the 350Z. No matter HOW much wrong/bad/etc info that could possibly come out, it's still exposure and in the last 6 months the tides have turned SHARPLY in favor of the 350Z. Being a fellow long-time vet of this car (I swear, I feel like it's been around for 10 years at this point), I'm sure you know what people originally thought...the discontent that was expressed...the constant "it's not a Z" comments. It's been a long time coming, but I think we're in the home stretch and any and all info is good info.
I'm sure you already got my memo since you've referrenced a lot of it here and I thank you for getting to it. As I said in the email to you, I mentioned that it was possible Jeff himself didn't even know that they were "taboo" at the time and you've proven that to be correct (I have no reason not to believe you). I think someone higher up in the food chain was supposed to control that and did not. And really, if anyone is STILL in trouble they shouldn't be...I mean I cannot believe how wide-spread full access sightings have been. Seeing the car driving around it nothing special...but cars being left open at track events and guys tipping valets $20 to see the car opened up and sit inside (happened on 350ZForum today) are happening all over the place. If Nissan even still cares about this, it's a losing battle...the word is out, people are pumped and it's gravy until July 3rd! Thanks for posting and getting it all out in the clear

I briefly saw this discussion early today, but did not have time to respond until now. I think that was a blessing, because you guys have done a very good job clarifying alot of things.
Thank you Jay for your post. Like you, I also thought that if someone from Nissan had some issues with the photos, that I would be getting a phone call, or an email. I never did. And as you stated, I always asked whomever was near if it was ok if I took pictures. I have no idea who these people were, but if anyone of them were under instructions to prevent people from taking pictures, well, I guess they didn't do their job. But I think they were just Nissan employees, as excited as me to see the cars.
The only item that I think I need to clarify is that I do not have any relatives that work for Nissan, and I do not personally know anyone who works for Nissan. I never had a discussion with an engineer ( or anyone else) about taking pictures, and I never broke an agreement with someone to not post pictures, because their was never an agreement or discussion about this to begin with.
I am just Joe Blow (except that nickname was already taken, so I went with Scafremon...of course...who wouldn't!), and I saw the cars, took pictures, and shared.
SeedyRom: If you would like my phone number, just message me. I do feel bad that some engineer possibly got reprimanded for what I did, because it sure sounds like it was the result of mis-information. I don't have any problem discussing any of this with anyone, and would gladly do so to help out someone who incorrectly got in trouble.
I sure hope all of this doesn't hurt my chances of getting pictures this Friday of white, black, and red! If anyone is in the area, I'll be the goofy looking guy standing on the corner of Fig and 190th with the digital camera in my hand. Here's a pic of me to help anyone recognize me.

Anyway, I may be down there for an event they are having over by Mr. K's Cafe on Friday. This year they took the employee go-karts and put little 350Z bodies on them
