Default Do you guys think this is Dealer bull?

I ordered a touring. I found a track at MSRP. My dealer said I can't let someone else take my original order because if they don't sell it to the person that ordered it Nissan will reduce there Z allotment. Just wonder if you guys heard this.

Nope - haven't heard that. What if the person test drove it and didn't like it? LOL...The dealer would make them buy it anyway?

i believe that this is true, at least the part about not allowing transfer of a preorder slot. there is a statement on the nissan website that pertains to this. i also received a letter from my dealer stating that i could not "sell" my preorder slot. however, they cant make you take your preordered car. but you will probably lose your deposit.

I thought I seen a post here that said the law says they can't even keep your deposit no matter what you sign. If you have not seen or driven the car you can demand your money back. I don't know maybe I just hoped this was the case.

Sure they can, that is what it is for. Most won't, but they ordered a $30,000+ vehicle specifically to his specifications as part of a deal, and he is talking about walking on that particular car. The deposit is there to make sure he is serious. Sure, with this car's demand at the moment, they'd be able to sell it quickly, but it isn't them changing their mind.

Default Do you guys thinh that this is dealer bull ?

I also read on the Nissan website that you could not sell or trade your order.or place in line. Dealer told me that it was against the law to keep the deposit.

My main point was that I even have someone lined up to purchase the car and give me the deposit. Or if that falls through I'm sure I can find someone to take it. I agree that I am changing my mind but I am in no way leaving them stuck with anything.

I'm not saying you shouldn't try to get what you want, or even state an opinion on what the dealer told you. I'm just saying that they can keep some of the deposit if they can say you caused them some kind of economic impact (floorplan, lost sale because of giving you the slot, etc).

If you gave them $10,000, sure they couldn't keep all of that, but the deposits are requested for a reason.

Good luck. I have no idea if Nissan does what the dealer is saying. I could see both sides, as some dealers might make up bogus buyers to get lot inventory, and Nissan would want to discourage that, but on the other hand, Nissan just wants to sell cars and as long as it moves quickly, I don't know that they would be that upset.

Let me run this by you. To me, a dealer might even be happy if you walked away from an order. You've probably got an order as msrp. You walk away from that and it frees them up to sell the car at an inflated price.

The hole point is "IF WE DON'T SELL IT TO THE PERSON THAT ORDERED IT WE WILL LOSE FUTURE Z ALLOCATIONS" quote. I just can't image Nissan giving a sh$t who buys the car. So if they wanted to be decent about the whole thing they could with no loss to them what so ever. I'll be happy with the touring but after all I here about the Bose and the crappy leather I thought it would be nice to put the extra money into brakes and wheels instead of the Bose and leather. We put our money behind something sight unseen and it would be nice if the dealer could be a little more agreeing about the matter. I didn't ask for money back and let him hanging.
