Default Weak Windsheild?

I was driving my usual route at about 45mph and not too close to a ford focus, when I saw a stone smack my windsheild and instead of the usual stone chip I got a 4 inch crack. So it looks like a complete replacement and deductible for me.

Anyone else experience this? I know there's nothing I can do about it, but just curious if I'm the only one.

I've started cleaning my windows with invisible glass recently and noticed several small chips on my windshield. What concerns me most is that I've never had a rock hit my windshield.
I believe the glass quality is questionable.

Yes. My car is just one year old and the windshield is pitted all over. Sadly, the paint holds up to rocks better than the glass windshield.

My windshield received a 10" crack after being hit by a medium sized rock on the DC beltway a few months after delivery. So far, the replacement glass is holding up...

Ares,
I am not sure exactly how they rate glass but I do know that there is different quality of glass, it has to do with the type of material used to make it and mostly dependant on the temperature that they heat the glass to. Again this is only what I have heard so dont quote me.

The angle'ing of the windshield is a little weird thats why. You should see the mini cooper's, those just beg to be hit by a rock and shatter.

I've had a gouge & crack in my windshield from a very small stone at 40mph...got it replaced and no more problems. But how do you stop people from hitting the side of your Z with their car door??

Simple, stop parking beside them! People are not going to stop you have STOP!

Are you being serious?? Just park it farther away. Unless you dont like to walk then you are going to continue to get lots of door dings.

Funny thing is, the newer the cars the less quality some of the things I took advantage of with the older. 87' Mustang, I was driving the Mass Pike to western mass.. And a deer jump out in the road, I hit it, then slammed on my windshield then over the car..

Needless to say, I got out checked the animal, which was out for the count, but the windsheild not a scratch on it, nor a dent in the hood.

Bring back the Super Tempered Glass!!!!

It's been a bad year for my Z... 2 door dings and now this cracked windsheild!

The last door ding wasn't long ago.

I parked in an end spot and parked far away enough to comfortably get out of the car and as I'm walking away I look at the distance between me and the white truck next to me and I thought to myself " oh yeah, plenty of space" and I walk to the office. As you may have guessed, when i came back there was a huge white skid mark on my driverside door and a dent. I was extremely mad.

So the next day I drove by the parking lot and that dumb F@CK had the nerve to park in the same spot... instead of being mature about it and taking down his liscense number, I keyed the entire side of his truck! I was quite argueably "temporarily insane."
