So I finally drove a 370z
Not impressed at all, I drive an 07 350 and didn't even need to think twice about trading in my baby for a 370.
No real pros about the car accept the interior redesign, although I didn't like the lack of digital speedometer or what they did behind the seats. The car in person is isnanely square and looks very feminine, looks like a tropical bug from the front and a want to be muscle car from behind. Bigger engine yet smaller sound out of the exhaust, the car did not feel faster top end or off the line to me.
I highly suggest for anyone else out there who has a 350 and is currently looking to trade up, to really rethink it. Us 350 owners truly have a legendary car that was destroyed by the redesign,

When I saw the 370z I beelined for the stable of 350z's he had on hand at the end of March 09 and snagged my Touring with the exact color/options I was looking for. I went back to the dealer yesterday to give them my DEQ certification all of the 08's gone now.
I never bothered driving a 370z when there were 350z's available.

No matter what you Feel or think No stock 350Z does 4.6 0-60 99gs in the solam and better overall handling Stock everyway you slice the 370Z is a better sports car then the 350Z. Dusting V8 Stang and Cayman heads up taking a Caymans S to compare or go 1 up. 370Z > 350Z except for the fuel gauge.
I love my 350Z but numbers don't lie.

hey, dwyane wade has a better points per game average than kobe, does that mean wade is a better player? to each his own. i drove my brother-in-law's 370 and you couldnt pay me to upgrade to the 370z. IMO, im not liking the new designs of nissan(g37 coupe, sentra, altima, new maxima, and now the 370z). sorry for digressing lol

4.6 0-60 - where did you read that? Most I've seen quoted is 5.1 and when they test drove it for a magazine (can't remember the mag) they said it was fast but doubted it was sub 5 sec - probably more like 5.5, let alone 4.6 which is M3 power (which have 400+bhp). I'll admit it is quicker than the 350z but not by much - it probably has similar performance to the older E46 M3 which is marginally quicker than a stock 350z. Styling has definitely been improved on the inside and I like the sound of the "self-healing" polymer paint.
This debate is not about bolt ons or which car responds better to them. It's stock vs stock and it's a preference. The 370z is a disgrace to the 350 in all ways IMO besides the engine. They should have dropped that 3.7 liter in the same 350 we're used to.
The only thing unproven so far is the track reliability of the 370 in stock form. It's commonly understood that you can take a stock 350 and beat on it at the track (although brake issues will ensue), but there is talk and some evidence that the 370 experiences high oil temps.
I agree with the OP, i've driven the 370z, and the overall difference in performance between the two isn't enough to "trade up" from an HR 350z, or a NISMO 350z for that matter.
Actually the HR engine responds very well to bolt ons as well, with just CAI's and HFC's, somebody made 296whp.

Not only will it walk any 350 stock:stock, but the car is more agile for track purposes. I was quite impressed with how stable the car was from a 1st gear punch, and it ripped to 80mph with ease.

btw, i wouldn't use the word "walks" so loosely, something like "edges out" works a little better. The 370z has 26 more HP, stop making it sound like a ferrari.

Nissan didn't make the 370z for people to "trade-up". They made it to improve over the the old z. I do agree that it looks different, but it should warm up to everyone as time passes like most new designs. Also, the Z has been meant to look feminine ever since its conception. As far as performance, your butt dyno might need a tune-up.
edit:
Adding to the performance argument, when Nissan was re-designing the Z, their main focus was handling, not power. There was a test last year (I forgot by who) and it was found that a stock 370z outhandled a stitched welded reinforce 350z (like the US Nismo 350z).
