Interesting. Seldom had this problem until my last to cars (06 volvo, 05 350z) and assumed it was age related - mine. Signals on both cars seem to require complete return to 0 degrees before turing off signal. Did older cars turn off during return to center perhaps?

This problem bothered me at first, but after a while you become more aware of the turn signal. When I take a turn that's less than 25-30 degreess and I use the turn signal, it is natural to check that its off now.

Buzzers
I read the wiring diagrams in the service manual but had a hellova time finding the wires under the dash so................
I got 2 Radio Shack buzzers (12 volt) - each a different frequency. I tapped into the wire behind the headlight clusters (both sides) that goes to the turn signal and ran the wires back under the dash.
I double face taped the buzzers to the topside of the plastic panel under the steering column, added a ground and viola, it worked.
If I wanted to make ot more "sophisticated, I'd add a rheostat to the ground to adjust the volume for top up or top down.
Took about 2 hours, Biggest pain was laying on my back (I'm 68 YO) under the dash to get the wires to the steering column.

This is the one thing I hate about my car too. It's not really the sound that is the main culprit, it's that you have to turn the wheel 90 degrees before it will "realize" a turn took place and click off the signal.
I've never had a car require the wheel to turn that much before it would kick off the signal. I have an entrance on the interstate that turns about 80 degrees, and it's not enough to kill the switch, so I am always on the stupid highway with the top down looking like an idiot!
